Steve Cohen Is the Mets Thanksgiving

0 10

First and foremost on this Thanksgiving holiday is the health and well-being to you and yours. As much as Mets fans are thankful about new ownership and the anticipation of bigger things to come, we thank first responders and look at Mets baseball as that diversion.

But thanks is that word of the day. And for this Mets franchise it is all about Steve Cohen. It’s about Sandy Alderson and his philosophy to move along and take this one step at a time with goals to win.

So this is a different Thanksgiving for the Mets and their fans. It’s a contrast from years past and that usual offseason of hoping and not coming up with a big splash in free agency or a trade that can make a difference.

It is a change of pace this Thanksgiving. There is hope and a baseball team with anticipation.

The difference is having the resources. There are no excuses or second guessing because the Mets are in the hunt for Trevor Bauer, George Springer, J.T. Realmuto, Francisco Lindor. In the next few weeks all of this rumor talk will come to fruition.

There are plenty of names on the market that are on the radar. Sources as of Wednesday, continue to say the Mets will be active and this team is causing a buzz in baseball circles.

And that my friends is a change of pace and thank you to that loyal base of Mets fans.

But there is a lot to be thankful for. Steve Cohen, of course, offers a lot to be thankful for. So does the know how and experience of Sandy Alderson.  In a way, Mets fans you have been blessed this Thanksgiving holiday.

And blessed because there is an owner you have been looking for. Cohen talks to his fan base via social media. You hear the Mets fan in him. You hear his passion about the Mets and the fans.

Blessed because there is serious talk and a better perspective about a winning agenda. A plan for stability, a commitment to restructure and improve the front office and minor league system.

So on this Thanksgiving it’s good to be a Mets fan. I make reference to the following comments from Sandy Alderson during his Monday Zoom conference call with the media:

“I don’t think we’re a player away,” he said. “I think we need more than that. Do we have a good foundation? Yes, I think we have an excellent foundation. But I think that our needs are multiple at this point.”

Those were the encouraging words. We have not heard this optimism about needs and a definite commitment to use the resources. It means spending and more of that wheeling and dealing with a commitment to not expend the draft picks and prospects.

So yes, Mets fans have a lot to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving!
