Report: Mets Still Targeting Top Available Players
While the Braves have made the most news to this point with their signings of starters Charlie Morton and Drew Smyly, the Mets are still expected to make the biggest splash according to sources of Buster Olney at ESPN.
Olney notes that the Mets are still targeting more than one of the this offseason’s big four – Francisco Lindor, Trevor Bauer, J.T. Realmuto, George Springer – with new owner Steve Cohen looking to win early and often.
Both Cohen and Alderson have noted the need at catcher and adding depth to the starting rotation. Alderson, team president (and now de facto president of baseball operations), mentioned the outfield on Monday during his press conference, and Springer is the top name available.
