The offseason is coming, what’s next for Cleveland Indians | cleveland.com
Terry Pluto likely has some sources inside the Tribe front office and is often right about future moves. He also has some odd thoughts, like Carlos Santana only being able to get a minor league deal.
Here’s Pluto, making plenty of sense, on Francisco Lindor’s future in Cleveland:
Fans know the Indians will trade Lindor. Some have suggested keeping him until the middle of next season and dealing him at the trade deadline. That won’t happen.
Lindor will receive at least $20 million in arbitration. The Indians will not want to pay him $10 million for a half-season. Furthermore, they are far more likely to receive better players/prospects now than at mid-season. Trading now gives his new team a full season before the star shortstop reaches free agency.
