World Series Game 4 Diary: I Don’t Believe What I Just Saw!

The Rays rallied, and rallied, and rallied again as they outlasted the Dodgers in the most exciting game you’ll ever see.

Hello, Rays fans. With Tampa Bay down 2-1, Kevin Cash turns to Ryan Yarbrough to try and even this up.

Ooh, it’s a righty lineup to face Julio Urias!

First Inning

With one out, Seager hits a rocket...right at BLowe. Is our luck turning?

Nope. With two outs, Turner hits a solo shot out to center.

1-0.

Bottom of the inning, and Randy breaks up the no hitter! In the first inning!

Aaaaaaand he’s caught stealing.

Second Inning

Yarbs is getting soft contact now, and even made a good over the shoulder grab off a check swing.

Bottom of the second. Brandon Lowe rips one to right, where Mookie Betts makes a routine leaping grab to rob BLowe of extra bases.

Third Inning

More soft contact by Yarbs as the lineup turns over...until Corey Seager crushes one.

2-0, not us.

Bottom of the inning. Zunino draws a walk, and that’s it.

Yes, that’s it.

Fourth Inning

Pollock with a one out double over Renfroe’s head.

Yarbs out, Ryan Thompson in, who sits down the next two easily.

Bottom of the inning, and Randy hits one out before I can even type.

2-1!

Bross with a single, then moves up on a wild pitch, but that’s it. Still, we’re back in this!

Fifth Inning

It Pleases Peter Fairbanks is on. After a 3 pitch K of Betts, Seager singles, then moves up on a wild pitch. Pete falls behind Turner 3-0...and get him to pop out.

But then Muncy singles and Seager scores. Muncy is out at second but the damage is done.

3-1, not us.

Bottom of the inning, and just as quick as you can say Ding Dong Johnson, Hunter .... wait, that can’t be right. (checks notes)

Yep it was definitely Hunter Renfroe who crushes one DEEEEEP to left.

Sixth Inning

It’s Diego time now, and he’s not sharp. Walks two, and a two out double by Enrique Hernandez.

4-2.

Bottom if the sixth. Randy singles, and Choi pinch hits and walks. And this feels like the game right here.

Meadows pinch hits. He yanks a cookie a long way but well foul. Two pitches later, and he Ks.

BLowe up. It goes 2-2 and — oh wait. My wife just found my cowbell from 2008. Cool! Okay where were we?

Its 2-2, and Brandon crushes one high and deep and GONE!

5-4 Rays!!!!

Seventh Inning

It’s Aaron Loup’s turn. A Seager single and a Turner double.

Loup bounces back to strikeout Muncy, and that’s it for Aaron.

Nick Anderson gets the call and gets a 3 pitch K of Will Smith. A free pass to Bellinger is next, and now Joc Pederson is pinch hitting. He rips a liner off the glove of Lowe. Bellinger is thrown out at third but two runs score.

6-5, and I’m exhausted.

Bottom of the seventh. Z whiffs and it feel like all the wind has gone out of our WAIT A MINUTE KK TAKES BAEZ OUT TO RIGHT JDJENDHDJJEHHDLPWMFJ!!!

6-6 game!!!

Eighth Inning

Taylor doubles, but Hernandez pops up the sac bunt attempt. Mookie grounds out, and Anderson gets to 2-2 against Seager, who lobs a flare just out of the reach of Willy Adames.

7-6.

John Curtiss comes in and gets out of it.

Bottom of the Eighth. Old Friend Alert: Adam Kolarek.

Choi works a four pitch walk, then Meadows and Lowe go down. Graterol comes in, and Adames lobs a single to left, Renfroe can’t drive them in.

Ninth Inning

John Curtiss gives a two out hit to Pederson, but that’s it. They go to the bottom of the inning and Dave Roberts calls on Kenley Jansen.

Yoshi pinch hits for Zunino and fans, including a center cut whiff.

Next is Kiermaier, and KK’s bat explodes as his single falls in short right just out of Hernandez reach.

Joey Wendle gets good wood on a drive to left, but it’s caught by Pederson.

Now it’s Randy, and the Dodgers are actually going to pitch to him? Randy works a full count, and they walk him.

Now it’s up to Brett Phillips. Gets ahead 1-0, but then he gets hosed on back to back calls to go 1-2. I’m cursing my TV.

But then the unthinkable happens. Brett Phillips singles to right. KK scores!

Taylor boots the ball! They’re sending Randy!

But Randy trips halfway home! He’s dead to rights!

But Will Smith misses the throw! Randy scores!

8-7 Rays! This series is all tied up! See you tomorrow!
