[Volleyball] CIU Rams Dominant Offense Sweeps Knights Volleyball

COLUMBIA, S.C. The SAU Women's Volleyball team traveled to Columbia International University for a conference match after coming off a 3-set win last night over Columbia College. The Knights fell to the Rams of Columbia International in three sets (25-21, 25-18, 25-23).

Set 1: Columbia International started out hot against the Knights, collecting the first 3 points of the set before Ashley McGugan put SAU on the board with a kill assisted by Carmen Wright. The Knights tied the set at 3-3 but the Rams controlled the remainder of the set. St. Andrews trailed 20-12 against the Rams before senior libero Karina Lozada went on an 8-service run to bring the Knights within one point. The Knights fell short in their late set comeback attempt, falling 25-21 in set 1.

Set 2: A point-for-point start to the set made for a competitive second set but the Rams gained momentum and pushed a 7-point lead at 19-12. Columbia International maintained the lead for the final points of the set to take the second set with a score of 25-18.

Set 3: The Rams started out ahead 9-4, before extending the lead over the Knights to double-digits at 17-7. St. Andrews gained energy after a 16-touch rally at the 17-11 mark but would not be able to push through to gain the win. The Knights dropped a close set with a score of 25-23, falling to the Rams in 3 sets.

Knights Leaders:

Freshman Haley Ferris tallied the most kills for the Knights with 7, with Kimberly O'Nell following closely behind with 5.

The Knights were led in assists by Carmen Wright with 13 while also tallying 7 digs.

Karina Lozada recorded 18 digs for the Knights, leading the SAU defense. 

Up Next:

The Knights will return on the road for their next competition as they face Tennessee Wesleyan on October 2nd. Tennessee Wesleyan will enter the match with a 1-2 record, while the Knights hold a 1-1 record in the early season.
