[Men's Basketball] Tennessee Wesleyan tops SAU Men's Basketball

ATHENS, Tenn. – The St. Andrews Men's Basketball team dropped an AAC matchup to Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon, 81-66.

How It Happened

A quick foul by the Bulldogs put Q'Dardrius Sanders on the charity stripe for the Knights, where he knocked down both shots to give SAU the 2-0 lead. A made 3-pointer by TWU put the Bulldogs up by one before Jamaan Bailey answered with a shot of his own from behind the arc to put the Knights back on top.

TWU knocked down another 3 before Myron Williams sank one right after to end the 3-point shootout, giving SAU the 8-6 lead. The game was tied at 13-13 after TWU strung together several field goals to catch up with the Knights and continued to control the remainder of the half.

The Bulldogs tacked on a last second 3-pointer to lead the Knights by 12 points going into halftime with a score of 44-32.

Travis Thompson Jr. was the top scorer for St. Andrews heading into the second half with 8 points. The Knights hit 4 of their 7 free throws in the first half while the Bulldogs struggled at the charity stripe, only hitting 2 of their 7 attempted free throws.

The offense of Tennessee Wesleyan came out in the second half on fire as they were able to create the largest lead of the game of 19 points with 11 minutes remaining on the clock.

Peter Musci recorded the next 5 points of the game to put the Knights within 14 points of the Bulldogs with a score of 62-48.

The Knights came within 11 points of the Bulldogs, which would be the closest they would come as Tennessee Wesleyan secured the 81-66 win over St. Andrews.

Key Players

Isaac Clay led the Knights offense with 23 points going 3 for 6 behind the arc while collecting 2 assists.

Travis Thompson Jr. recorded 11 points while collecting 7 boards for the Knights.

Jozef Vanderhorst also brought in 7 rebounds and put up 4 points.  

Up Next

The Knights will next hit the road as they travel to Columbia International for a conference matchup with a 7:30 pm tip-off on February 19th.
