LAURINBURG, N.C. – The St. Andrews softball team fell to DII Davis & Elkins on Saturday afternoon, 5-3 and 2-0.

GAME 1: D&E 5 SAU 3

Davis & Elkins' starting pitcher, Haley Grindstaff, held the Knights scoreless through 4 innings, limiting SAU to just 4 hits before being replaced by another arm from the Senators in the 5th.

The Senators capitalized on a walked batter that scored a run in the top of the 2nd, followed by a fielder's choice that scored an additional run to take the early 2-0 lead.

St. Andrews picked up two hits in the bottom of the 2nd, with Taryn Tucker and Asucena Trujillo's singles to left field but the Knights were unable to bring them across the plate.

Davis & Elkins scored another run in the top of the 4th and 2 in the 6th, taking the 5-0 lead over the Knights.

The Knights put together a 7th inning rally that was started by a single to right-center from Brennan Broadaway which advanced Cassie Fortner to third base. Ashlyn Dial was then hit by a pitch, loading the bases for St. Andrews. Britnei Murray forced an error with her hit to shortstop, reaching base and scoring Forter and Broadaway. The Senators then turned a double play to end the game, 5-2.

GAME 2: D&E 2 SAU 0

The first three innings of game 2 were scoreless, although Asucena Trujillo recorded a hit up the middle in the bottom of the 3rd, where the Knights left her stranded on base.

In the top of the 4th, SAU pitcher Kyleigh Collins, gave up a two-run homerun that would be the only score of the game. The Senators took game 2 with a score of 2-0 over the Knights.

Collins pitched exceptionally well for the Knights in game 2, pitching the full game while allowing just 4 hits and collecting 2 strikeouts.
