MLB News: Starling Marte Unlikely To Be Traded This Offseason
Adam Berry of MLB.com reports that the Pittsburgh Pirates do not plan on shopping outfielder Starling Marte this offseason.
Marte, 31, hit .295/.342/.503 with 23 home runs, 82 RBI, and 25 stolen bases this season. That gave him a 119 wRC+ and 3.0 fWAR.
Defensively, though, the center fielder has seen a decline as he registered -9 DRS and a -7.6 UZR in 2019. However, he’s proven to be much better in left field over the course of his career as he has 82 DRS and a 24.0 UZR in 4,949 innings there.
Given the Mets’ need for a center fielder, it seemed like a logical fit for the Mets. That being said, one of the main things that make him appealing to other teams, the two club options remaining on his deal (valued at $11.5 million in 2020 and $12.5 million in 2021), is possibly why the Pirates are leaning towards keeping him.
That being said, given that the World Series isn’t even over yet, there is still a lot of time for things to change.
