Rays prospects and minor leagues: Jones doubles twice for Hudson Valley

In his first game in five days, Greg Jones continued a hot stretch.

After the game on July 7, Greg Jones was batting .224/.338/.310. He’s now on an eight-game hitting streak, including six multi-hit games. He’s now batting .315/.388/.424.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (59-41)

Durham was topped by Indianapolis, 8-3. Matt Duffy’s homer in the third cut the Bulls’ deficit to 2-1, and Kevin Padlo went deep in the fifth to make a 5-2 game in the fifth. However, they couldn’t slow down the Indians’ offense. Arturo Reyes was charged with all eight runs — six earned — in 4 13 innings.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (18-11)

Montgomery fell apart late in a 9-6 loss to Jackson. In the sixth, the Biscuits broke a 2-2 with a Tristan Gray sacrifice fly and Miles Mastrobuoni two-run single, but they couldn’t hold the lead. The Generals tied it in the eighth and scored six times in the ninth. Kenny Rosenberg allowed two runs in six innings.

Class A-Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (22-6)

Charlotte edged Dunedin, 3-2, in Game 1 of their doubleheader. Joe Ryan pitched three innings and struck out nine. A half inning after the Blue Jays tied the game at two, Michael Smith drew a bases-loaded walk to give the Stone Crabs the lead in the bottom of the sixth.

Because they decided to go through with playing a doubleheader despite a rain delay longer than three hours, the second game ended after I wanted to go to bed. The result is here.

Class-A Bowling Green Hot Rods (18-9)

Alan Strong was sharp in Bowling Green’s 3-2 win over Quad Cities. In one of his best starts of the season, the righty struck out six in seven scoreless innings, giving up just three singles and two walks. He was aided by some early offense. Chris Betts hit a two-run homer in the first, and Izzy Wilson hit an RBI triple in the second.

Short-Season Hudson Valley Renegades (19-15)

Hudson Valley rolled to a 12-3 win over Lowell. Garrett Hiott’s first pro home run gave the Renegades a 1-0 lead in the third, and Greg Jones and Jacson McGowan’s RBI doubles extended that lead to three. An inning later, all three batters drove in runs in the five-run fourth. Zack Trageton was sharp again, striking out eight in six scoreless innings. He hasn’t allowed more than a run in three straight starts.

Princeton was crushed by Greeneville, 9-2. The Reds scored three in the top of the first, but Diego Infante’s solo homer in the bottom half of the inning cut the Rays’ deficit to two. However, Greeneville scored the next six runs to extend its lead. Matthew Peguero allowed seven runs in 4 13 innings.
