Sabermetrics news: What should the Indians do at the trade deadline?

0 8

FG trade values; lopsided results from the juiced ball; what the Indians should do at the deadline

FanGraphs | Kiley McDaniel: The first FanGraphs trade values are up, and some of it contains some interesting details, such as internal evaluations of Gary Sanchez’s framing (which is better than the public), and talk of how Max Scherzer’s deferred money factors into his possible trade value.

Baseball Prospectus | Jeff Wiser ($): Justin Verlander has argued against the juiced ball, arguing it has inflated home run totals to a ridiculous degree. That’s not entirely unwarranted, because in theory a “good” juiced ball, if there was one, would also inflate doubles and singles instead of singles and outs, respectively, and it has only boosted home run totals.

ESPN Insider | Buster Olney ($): The big question of the trade deadline will be what the Indians do. They have surged recently, but they have a priority to trade Trevor Bauer, Brad Hand, and/or Francisco Lindor at some point, but the fanbase obviously doesn’t want that. They have to balance getting the maximum returns for long-term growth, while also trying to compete in 2019 and 2020.
