"Will you be mine?"

Some of the cutest photos ever popped up on twitter yesterday, in celebration of Valentine's Day. It featured a bunch of youngsters and their favorite Dodgers'. Above, via Camelback Ranch on twitter, is Cody Bellinger and on the right is Justin Turner getting his valentine.

BTW, you can check out a bunch of pics from Day 2 of Dodgers Spring Training, via Jon SooHoo and Sue Jo, here. Below are more links to check out:
  • This Day in Dodgers HistoryIn 2012 MLB sets up a vetting committee, headed by Braves chairman emeritus Bill Bartholomay, to evaluate the various bids to buy the Dodgers from Frank McCourt.  In 2017 the Dodgers signed free agent reliever, former Giants closer and native son Sergio Romo to a one-year $3MM contract. He would not pitch well in Blue. He got into 30 games and recorded a 6.12 ERA, 5.76 FIP while allowing 7 home runs. Romo would eventually be traded to the Rays in late-July.

  • Spring Training Notes: 22 year old Julio Urias has his first bullpen of spring yesterday. He has worked his way back from shoulder surgery and is expected to adhere to an inning-pitched limit this season. Other pitchers to have their first bullpen session this spring are Josh Fields, Tony Cingrani, Pedro Báez, Dylan Floro, Scott Alexander, J.T. Chargois, Caleb Ferguson and Yadier Alvarez.
  • Per Ken Gurnick at MLB.com; "Dodgers not rushing Urias' road to recovery."
"He was a guy who was abbreviated last year and when it mattered in the postseason, we counted on him," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "When you look at the workload the last couple of years, it's pretty low, so we've got to be mindful of that and how we ramp him up is at the forefront of our minds. We've got to make sure there are bullets left for the middle and end of the season."

Per Clayton Kershaw: "Now it's just, how do we box that up and do it every fifth day for a full season, for five and 10 seasons? That's what it's going to take. For me, that's the only question mark left. Can you do it for eight months straight, make 32 starts, 38 with the playoffs, and be dominant. I was different, in that I needed to work on pitching. I needed to throw more strikes, to find a third pitch. I needed more refinement to get to that next level.
"He doesn't need that. Every box is checked. Now the only thing is going out every fifth day knowing you'll get a very good start every time out. He pretty much checked it in the second half last year, but do it for a full season and there's no more questions."
  • This weeks Topps online exclusive 2019 Throwback Thursday set features the 1978 Grease card design and includes Jackie Robinson (you can see the card on the right. Check it out here to order.
  • I really enjoyed this. Ron Cervenka at Think Blue LA points out a Dodger bar and legit Mexican restaurant worthy of your visit located in New York. It's called Taqueria St. Marks Place in the Lowe East Side. Check out his review here.
  • Via Alden Gonzalez at ESPN; "How Dodgers' clubhouse embodies baseball's free-agency concerns."
"It's weird," Pollock said. "It seems like there's not much urgency on the teams' end to get things done. There's some really, really amazing players who are still out there. Hopefully that gets squared away because those guys deserve to be in spring training with a team and competing like everyone else."
The Dodgers serve as unintentional pillars for the methodology that has sparked this issue -- a team with substantive wealth that shies away from massive contracts.
Andrew Friedman hasn't signed a player to a nine-figure deal in his five offseasons as president of baseball operations. The result: four consecutive National League West titles, back-to-back World Series appearances, enviable organizational depth and, after this season, plenty of payroll flexibility.
