According to Sportico, Steve Cohen’s bid to buy the Mets franchise has been approved by Major League Baseball’s ownership committee.

The billionaire is now one step closer to becoming the majority owner of the Mets. Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the committee voted 7-1 to approve Cohen.

Next up is the eight-owner executive committee and then finally all 30 owners will vote on Cohen’s bid to own his childhood favorite.

Cohen would hold 95% stake in the team should his $2.42 billion bid be approved.
