FLYING START PAYS OFF FOR FARNWORTH

D.L. Farnworth A team played host to Forrest B with Laura Bradley and Adam Rowan taking the first two mixed opening the score for Farnworth setting the stage for the next four games which all went Farnworth’s way comfortably. Forrest B then stopped Farnworth’s flow by taking the next two mixed from their grasp, but by the half way mark Farnworth had a healthy 8-2 lead, with their second couple Andrew Clarke and Georgina Ryding being the decisive factor, winning all four of very close encounters. Youngster Jenny Ball as Forrest’s third lady, with Lisa Harrison, had a nail biting set of games only to be pipped by Farnworth’s Janette Owen and Laura Bradley losing both games 22-20, the second set of ladies’ doubles did go the way of Forrest with Jenny alongside Jackie Rypel achieving success in another set of close games 21-14 and 23-21. Mahendra Patel and Will Wiseman took the first men’s doubles comfortably but it was not to be Forrest’s night and final the score of 10-8 went in Farnworth’s favour.

In D section Metropolitans B visited Moorside C’s venue and quickly made their mark by taking the first three mixed games. Moorside’s Rhian Vickers and Alan Parkinson fought back to take the second of their mixed games against Metropolitan’s Carol and Denis Corbett. Moorside took one more mixed and Metropolitans had the upper hand until Simon Ball and Jamie Belton took a men’s game to 2-10. Stephen Drinkwater and Peter Holden took the final two games and a final score of 14-4 went to Metropolitan.

Another D Section encounter between Forrest G and D.L. Farnworth D was closely contested. Louise Quayle playing with youngster Chris Latham set Forrest off to a good start taking the first two mixed against Farnworth’s Irene Crompton and Christian Elcock. Farnworth’s Kichelle Medard and Sam Ford then took the next mixed in a very tight 22-20 win, Farnworth’s third pairing Janet Dawson and Phillip Ashcroft took the first of their mixed games but another two of Forrest’s young players Lauren Gittins and Kyle Swindells (making his debut in league badminton), had other ideas and took the next game 21-15. At the half way point Forrest were 8-2 up and with the rest of the team (which included Steph Hill and Ronan Considine) took six games out of the final eight to give them a 14-4 win.
