HILL MAKE MARK TO CONTINUE WINNING

Markland Hill B maintained their 100 per cent winning record in the Bolton Badminton League A Section with a 12-6 win over Oakgate B. Cecilia Rodger and G. Jacobs for Markland Hill took their first mixed game 21-16, but Oakgate's M. Scott and P. Thompson hit back with a 21-11 victory. In the second pair of mixed games Julie Lowe and Alan Crow won 21-11 before L. Mashiter and Liam Walsh replied for Oakgate with a 21-14 victory. Markland Hill's Joanne and Graham Holt then took both their games in the third set to 21-13 and 21-11. The following eight games went the way of Markland Hill before Oakgate's third lady, J. Kenrick and Mashiter, took their ladies games 21-19 and 21-15. The final pair of men's games were split between Jacobs and Holt for Markland Hill 21-18 and the last game of the night went to Oakgate's Icky Khan with Walsh 23-21.

In B Section Park beat Sharples A 10-8. Park's Bev Evans and Stuart Lovell lost their first game 21-16 to Sharples' Emma Greenwood and Martyn Headley but they fought back and took the next game 21-18. The following eight mainly high scoring games went to Park, but could have gone either way. Sharples' third lady Alison Saunders partnering Greenwood dug in and took both their ladies' games from Park's Barbara Nowell and Evans to 25-23 and 21-16. It was then the turn of Sharples' third man Andy Woods with Headley to take both their games to 21-15 and 21-16. However, Park's Nowell, and Barbara Gillett, took both the final pair of ladies games 21-18 and 21-8 to give Park the win. The final men's games saw Sharples' Woods and Neil Flanaghan just beat Ian Champbell and Ashok Mistry 24-22 and 21-15.

Forrest E, may have thought they were in for an easy ride, when they were 8-2 up after the mixed games at Moorside. However, Moorside A turned the tide when their first and third ladies, Judith Standish and Joanne Egan split their games 21-12 and 20-22 against Forrest's Dureen Dixon and Louise Quayle. The first and third men's games almost mirrored the ladies' with Moorside's Geoff Everitt and Steve Gittins splitting their men's games 20-22 and 23-21 against Dave Travis and Mark Allen. Moorside went on to win the last four games with Egan and Sue Beamer taking both their ladies' games to 21-13 and 21-14 from Quayle with Elaine Powers. Moorside's Gittins and Matt Barton, won both men's from Forrest's Allen and Paul Skivington 21-16 and 21-18 but it was not enough to deny and Forrest a 10-8 victory.
