Masters Counties Challenge Results

Fantastic effort and great enjoyment experienced by all the Sussex Masters badminton teams at this year’s Masters Counties Challenge held across England at 7 centres on 12/13th January.

40s

The 40s team had an amazing weekend winning draws against Surrey and Wales, beat the other 4 teams which meant as Surrey drew against Avon in their last match of the day we came top of the table which also means I believe the 40s team will be promoted to the Premier next year, so proud of our team brilliant!

45s

045’s hoped to stay in the Premier and secure enough games to stay up but we swiftly gained confidence and came 3rd out of 7 teams – we only lost 1 match over the weekend – winning or drawing everything else – absolutely brilliant effort by the whole team

50s

The 50s came runners up with some amazing wins not least drawing with Wales – the eventual winner

55s

This was a fabulous effort by the over 55 team staying in the premier division- against strong opposition but we won some vital games which kept us up which is no given with two teams going down each year.

60s

The 60s gave a great effort particularly by many that have never played in the Masters Challenge before. Looks like all are happy apart from Captain, although many have said I have the face for radio!

65s

Great weekend for the 65’s. W5-L3. Level top on Saturday. Carole and Lynn won all their 8 ladies matches. Paula and Simon were super, playing all the mixed.

70sA

It was a fantastic weekend for the 70’s playing at Eastleigh finishing in 2nd place. Team consisted of Wendy and Janice playing the ladies, John C and William the men’s and Sheila and John W the mixed. Congratulations to everyone a great team effort.

70sB

The 70B team had a tough weekend losing 2 players at the last moment, resulting in having only 2 out of three scoring pairs.
On the Saturday there were many good close games, the pick being the ladies winning a tough 3 set match against Wilts. On the Sunday we mixed the pairings around. Against Cheshire the men’s pair also won a hard fought 3 setter, and the ladies and mixed pairs won against Lancs. The team had a great weekend on and off the court.
