PM Narendra Modi Hails Lakshya Sen After Spirited Show at All England Open Badminton Championships
New Delhi: World No 1 Viktor Axelsen dominated from the word go as he defeated Lakshya Sen 21-10, 21-15 at Utilita Arena in Birmingham in the badminton match that lasted 53 minutes. Hours after Lakshya’s heartbreaking loss in the All England Open 2022 final against Axelsen, PM Narendra Modi took to Twitter and congratulated the 20-year-old badminton sensation for his remarkable show at the event.
Praising his grit and tenacity, Modi wished him the very best for his future endeavours. Modi tweeted,”Proud of you Lakshya Sen! You’ve shown remarkable grit and tenacity. You put up a spirited fight. Best wishes for your future endeavours. I am confident you will keep scaling new heights of success.”

Ahead of the final, Lakshya had a dream run fending off the likes of Anthony Ginting and last year’s champion Lee Zii Jia.
The Almora shuttler was the first Indian man in 21 years to reach the final of the All England Championships. Only 3 Indian men Prakash Nath (1947), Prakash Padukone (1980 and 1981) and Pullela Gopichand (2001) have been there and done that before Lakshya. Only Padukone and Gopichand have won the prestigious title for India. Saina Nehwal reached the final in 2015 only to lose to Spanish star Carolina Marin.
