Pan Am Players at Huelva 2021
Pan Am players from Canada, United States, Brazil, Mexico, Guatemala and Peru competed at the 2021 BWF World Championships held in Huelva, Spain, from December 12 to 19.

Kevin Cordon returned to a world championship after 10 years and, continuing the good performance he had in Tokyo 2020, managed to defeat Joran Kweekel (NED) in a tough match (21-18, 10-21, 21-16) and Michal Rogalski (POL) by 21-14, 21-19 but Cordon lost in Round 3 against Lakshya Sen (IND) who reached semifinals.
Brian Yang continues to amaze and competed in 3 rounds of the MS event. Yang managed to defeat Bernando Altino (POR) in round 1 by 21-15. 21-8 and Thomas Rouxel (FRA) in round 2 by 21-12, 24-22, but losing with Mark Caljouw (NED) in round 3 by 20-22, 12-21.
Michelle Li came back to the courts winning her first match against Julie Jakobsen (DEN) 21-19, 21-18 but she could not get over Han Yue (CHN) in a tough match (21-19, 21-19).
Rachel Honderich and Kristen Tsai also started the competition with a victory against Tirtosentono/Van Der Arr (NED) in straight games (21-12, 21-5) but lost in the next round against seeded one duo Chen/Jia (CHN) by 21-11, 21-17.
Unfortunately, Jason Ho-Shue lost in first round against Lee Zii Jia (MAS) in a 3-games-match (10-21, 21-17, 11-21).
Lino Muñoz and Luis Montoya from Mexico also competed in this World Championships but only played in R1. Muñoz could not overcome Kalle Koljonen (FIN) losing by 8-21 in both games, and Montoya lost against Luis Enrique Peñalver (ESP) by 15-21, 13-21.
Iris Wang (USA) began the competition with a victory against Saraya De Visch (NED) by 5-21, 8-21 but lost in R2 against An Seyoung (KOR) by 7-21, 15-21.
From Peru, Inés Castillo and Paula La Torre competed in Women’s Doubles and played against seeded one duo Chen/Jia (CHN) and lost by 11-21, 4-21 performing good rallies and points.
Also from Brazil, Frabricio Farias, Samia Lima, Francielto Farias, and Jaqueline Lima showed a good performance in their matches. Samia and Jaqueline played Women’s Doubles R2 against Birch/Smith (ENG) losing by 12-21, 14-21. Francielto and Fabricio lost against Lee/Yang (TPY) in Men’s Doubles R1 by 4-21, 12-21, while in Mixed Doubles, Fabricio and Jaqueline could not defeat Jomkoh/Paewsampran (THA).
