Crowns Owners – Pan Am 2021

Brian Yang, Beiwen Zhang, Phillip & Ryan Chew, Rachel Honderich & Kristen Tsai and Joshua Hurlburt-Yu & Josephine Wu won the crowns at XXIV Pan Am Individual Championships 2021 held in Guatemala from april 29 to May 2.

With the participation of the best pan am player from 12 different countries, the championship filled the entire Pan-American region with emotion, who experienced the event closely through the live broadcast through our social networks (YouTube Facebook)

Brian Yang and Beiwen Zhang captured their first titles at the Pan Am Individual Championships.

Nineteen-year-old Yang took the men’s singles title when his opponent Jason Ho-Shue retired after hurting his knee with Yang leading 21-13 18-10. Ho-Shue, the 2016 champion, also could not take the court for his men’s doubles match with Nyl Yakura, and the match was awarded to USA’s Phillip Chew/Ryan Chew. Guatemala star, Kevin Cordon, and B.R. Sankeerth reached the MS podium winning the bronze medals, while Ruben Castellanos/Christopher Martinez and Job Castillo/Luis Montoya did the same in Men’s Doubles.

Beiwen Zhang held off an impressive challenge from Canadian teen Rachel Chan, who had upset second seed Iris Wang in the semifinals. Zhang took the title defeating Chan in a 2-games match. Iris Wang and Talia Ng got on the 3/4 podium places after losing in Semifinals.

Rachel Honderich/Kristen Tsai won their third title in women’s doubles with a comfortable 21-12, 21-7 result over USA’s Francesca Corbett/Allison Lee. In this event, local duos Diana Corleto/Nikte Sotomayor and Mariana Paiz/Alejandra Paiz won the bronzes.

Joshua Hurlburt-Yu/Josephine Wu defended their mixed doubles crown, seeing off Guatemala’s Christopher Martinez/Mariana Paiz 21-18, 21-18. The bronze medals were for Andres Lopez/Sabrina Solis and Jonathan Solis/Diana Corleto.

The XXIV Pan Am Individual Championships allowed our atlethes them to continue preparing for future challenges, including the next Olympic Games for which this tournament has allowed them to score points in the Road to Tokyo Ranking.
