CAREBACO Junior Champions

Athletes from Canada, Guyana, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago and host Barbados won medals at 2019 Carebaco Junior International held in St Michael, Barbados.

The final day started with MS final. Joseph Lu (CAN) won the gold after defeating Dominick Scantlebury (21-12 and 21-16). Lu reached this stage after won matches against players from Panama and Barbados with a great performance. Leon Cassie (TTO) and Kennie King (BAR) won the bronze.

In Men’s Doubles, local duo won the title. Kennie King and Dominick Scantlebury defeated Leon Cassie and Vance Juteram (TTO) in a tough final match (18-21, 21-11 and 21-8), winning the gold for their country. Akili Haynes/Tyrese Jeffrey and Jair Naipal/Geordan Tjon Kon Joe (SUR) complete the podium with the bronze medals.

Guyana’s Ramdhani Won Triple Crown

In Singles, Priyanna Ramdhani defeated players from Barbados and Suriname to reach the finals, where she overcome Imani Mangroe in a tight match (21-9, 18-21 and 21-17).

Ramdhani with Chequeda De Boulet (TTO) won the Women’s Doubles title after defeating Imani Mangroe and Chaista Soemodipoero (SUR) 21-18 and 21-11.

The third gold for Guyana came in Mixed Doubles with Priyanna and Tyrese Jeffrey who defeated locals Dominick Scantlebury and Sobers Robyn in the final by 21-11 and 21-9.

Now, Carebaco International 2019 will begin on August 20, also in St. Michael, Barbados with participation of outstanding athletes from the region.
