Behind the Scenes, GT1 SPL
In the past there have been a lot of comments about the custom carbon fiber work the team at Bulletproof Automotive / GT-RR does. People continue to ask us to share more on projects we end up creating for clients. We wanted to take a few minutes to offer a behind the scenes look at the last stages of our GT1 SPL build for a special friend of ours in Colombia. This car has already won a car show, landed on the cover of Super Street, displayed at SEMA with Toyo and had a SpeedHunters feature. The car's owner wasn’t done still!
The GT1 SPL is recognizable from every angle. Extreme attention to every detail of the cars that we build is something that we are extremely proud of here at Bulletproof Automotive. This build was no different. Here's a deeper look at some of the custom bodywork that has went into this one of a kind R35.
The fenders started as Top Secret wide fenders
Next GT1 style vents were cut into the Top Secret fenders
But...when it came to fitting MEGA wide custom wheels and realizing we needed to make these Top Secret fenders 5" wider per side!!!! That became more complicated...
They were chopped up, widened and test fitted...but the work was no where near done.
The rear quarter panels were intense!
The car has Top Racing side skirts with underboard that had to be extensively modified to mate up to a 6" + wider front track and a 6" + wider rear track...to make matters more complicated, we developed a side exit straight exhaust that goes through the side skirts. Making all of these panels flow took a variety of reshaping and conceptual challenges. Here is a cardboard markup of one of the small details later created.
Here's the side exit exhaust in early design. You can see how the reshaping of the Top Racing side skirts began to flare.
Here's some side exit exhaust behind the scenes...There are two pipes that dump under the car and two the run out to the side skirts.
As mentioned earlier, this car is currently back under the knife for another round of incredible modifications! The interior has been taken all the way down to nothing but carpet as we add plenty of carbon fiber and alcantara. Even the OEM seatbelts were changed out for custom red belts to bring the interior together in proper Bulletproof / GT-RR fashion. From there, Recaro seats were chosen and we got to work turning them into something truly special.
