Fatherhood rumours swirl for F1 veteran Alonso
Nov.29 (GMM) Fernando Alonso is in the midst of a swirl of off-track rumours as he delivers one of his strongest qualifying performances of the year.
Spanish sports daily Diario Sport reports growing speculation that the 44-year-old Aston Martin driver and his partner Melissa Jimenez, 38, may be expecting a child.
The couple – together for around two years – have kept a notably low public profile lately, with Jimenez absent from her usual DAZN broadcasts since June and last seen trackside at Monza in September.
The rumours are now being fuelled by Alonso’s own past comments. Back in October 2024, he admitted: “I don’t have children, something I want to have as a personal goal in the next few years, hopefully not too many.”
Fans also note that Alonso has grown far more open to family life since living with Jimenez and her three children from her previous relationship with footballer Marc Bartra.
Neither Alonso nor Jimenez has commented, but Spanish media say the “paddock rumour mill is in full swing”.
While the speculation grows, Alonso produced a standout performance on Friday, qualifying P4 for the Qatar sprint.
The two-time world champion said the hectic, low-practice format plays into the strengths of age and experience.
“I have 24 years of experience and I’m 44 years old. There are disadvantages like travel fatigue and jet lag, but it also has its advantages. I know how to extract the maximum from the car.”
He warned, however, that the field will tighten once parc ferme reopens.
“They open parc ferme, you can work on the car, and everyone ends up getting it right.”
