2025 Regional Extreme Festival series end in style
This year’s Regional Extreme Festival series presented by Coca Cola ended in style at the Zwartkops Raceway near Pretoria on Saturday.
A respectably sized crowd was rewarded with the final rounds of six title chases, producing spectacle and close racing.
Heading up proceedings were the final two races of the 2025 Dunlop V8 Supercar season.
Race one went to Warren Lombard (Pepboys Automotive Ford Mustang), followed by Thomas Reib (Café 9 Automotive Chev Corvette), Larry Wilford (Fuchs Lubricants Holden Monaro) and Sam Dahl (ArcPro Tech Ford Falcon).
Terry Wilford (Fuchs Lubricants Ford Mustang) won the next race, leading home Lombard, Dahl and Reib. In the process, Warren Lombard clinched the year’s overall Dunlop V8 Supercar championship title.
The opening BMW///M Performance Parts race for cars in Classes A, B and C was won by Rick Loureiro (Combined Racing F30 335i), ahead of Paulo Loureiro (Fast Development F30 335i), Leon Loubser (Monaco Motors E92 335i) and Anton Pommersheim (Eagle Granite E46 Turbo).
Loubser won race two ahead of Andreas Meier (CEC Pty E36 STC), Pommersheim and Renier Smith (E36 M3 Turbo).
Bernard de Gouveia (De Gouveia Accountants E46 M3) won the first race for BMWs in Classes D, E and F, leading home Eugene Gouws (Master Mowers E92 M3 Turbo), Dawie Olivier (International Race Supplies E30 330i) and Troy Cochran (Tyremart Boksburg E36 M3).
Gouws won race two ahead of Cochran, Johan Miller (Hei-Jo Trans E36 328i) and De Gouveia who, having clinched his class title in the first heat, took a leisurely tour to make absolutely sure of a finish. Dylan Pragji (Styling Auto VW Golf GTi) won the first ACD Welkom 111 GT Sports and Saloon Car race ahead of Jared Rossouw (OMG Gifts Polo), Mark du Toit (TAR BMW Z4) and George Economides (Wealth Avenue Golf 1 Turbo).
Pragji won the next race as well, chased to the flag by Du Toit, Marius Truter (2D Trucks Golf 1) and Rossouw.
The first SuperHatch race victory went to Ja Frecklelton (SHAIN VW Golf), leading home Arthur Thorne (VW Polo), Karel Stols (Pta Noord Toyota Etios) and Quintis Viljoen (Aldrich Racing VW Polo).
Ian Walker (Melow Velo Polo) won race two ahead of Thorne, Stols and Viljoen.
Theodore Vermaak (DOE Quality Parts Forza) won the first race for DOE Quality Parts Formula Vees, followed over the finish line by Gert van den Berg (Start My Car Rhema), MD Bester (Mangaza MXTwo Rhema) and Vaughn Hills (Mangaza MXTwo Rhema).
Vermaak and Van den Berg were first and second the next time out as well, chased by Brandon Hills (Mangaza MXTwo Rhema) and Johan Gouws (Acanjo Printer Repairs JForce).
Jayden Goosen (AA Certified Pre-Owned Polo) took the first Ate Brakes VW Challenge race from Anthony Lessing (PABAR Polo), Ian Walker (Mellow Velo Polo) and Mydi Mfana (Clean Renewables Polo).
Race two went to Goosen as well, again followed by Lessing. This time Mfane took the final podium place, ahead of Elna Croeser (Ate Brakes Polo).
Meanwhile Adriaan de Beer took both Class C battles in his Ukwasi Engineering Polo), taking the year’s overall title in the process.
The next event at Zwartkops will be the venue’s annual Top of the Hill Challenge, on Friday, 21 November, and Saturday, 22 November.
