Bubba Wallace's First Post Immediately After Big NASCAR Win

0 36

Bubba Wallace snapped a 100-race NASCAR Cup Series winless streak in style on Sunday.

Wallace, who last took home the checkered flag at Kansas in September 2022, won the Brickyard 400 by a 0.222-second margin in double overtime today, edging out Kyle Larson, who won the event last year. The win by Wallace is the first ever by a Black driver at Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s famous 2.5-mile oval; Lewis Hamilton had previously won an F1 race on the facility's road course.

"To overcome so much and to put these people in Victory Lane, that’s what it’s all about,” Wallace said following the win. “These people keep pushing me, believing in me. Man, just so proud.”

Wallace now owns three wins on the Cup Series in his career. The 31-year-old 23XI Racing star clinched a spot in the upcoming Cup Series playoffs as a result of today's victory.

It will be the second playoff appearance for Wallace in the last three years. In his first social media post after his big win, Wallace opted for two emojis: a kissing face and set of bricks, a reference to the tradition of the Brickyard winner "kissing the bricks" on the track.

Wallace had to outlast a rain delay and two overtimes to win one of NASCAR's "crown jewel" races for the first time ever.

“It don’t matter. I’m already winning at life,” Wallace said when asked what his critics might say about him now. “I’ve got the best wife, the best kid. People are always going to say something. I am excited to see how far the goalpost has moved. So I get to go and chase that now.”

There are four more races in the NASCAR Cup Series regular season, with the next one set for Sunday, Aug. 3 at Iowa Speedway.

Wallace will attempt to keep the good vibes going at that event.
