Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series ‘Scott Sexton Memorial’ scheduled MONDAY, JULY 14 at Volunteer Speedway

BULLS GAP, Tenn – Inclement weather forced Volunteer Speedway promoter Vic Hill to cancel running of the Scott Sexton Memorial back in early April. Still wanting to remember the original “Superman” to East Tennessee dirt racing fans, Hill and Ray Cook decided to honor Sexton by rescheduling the Scott Sexton Memorial to MONDAY, JULY 14 as part of the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series.

The racing program features Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series $7,552-to-win “Scott Sexton Memorial” Super Late Model, Sportsman Late Model, Street Stock, Front Wheel Drive & Enduro.

Scott Sexton captured Super Late Model championships at Volunteer Speedway in 1991 and 1995. He passed away in 2013, at age 46. The driver nicknamed “Superman” captured 204 wins in a career that began in 1986 and unfortunately was cut short due to Scott having to step away full-time from the driver’s seat in 2008 because of health issues.

Sexton, from Pigeon Forge, scored the biggest victory of his career in 1992 at Volunteer Speedway as he defeated a stellar field of the nation’s top dirt late model drivers in winning the Mello-Yello 100 for a payday of $12,500. Other big victories during his career include the Rusty Wallace Pontiac 100, Banquet Table Buffet 100, Action Attraction Photos 100, Dalton Direct Carpets 100, Lance Cunningham Ford 100, and East Boulevard Motors Shootout 100, all at the “World’s Fastest Dirt Track” – Volunteer Speedway.
