Super Chevy Showdown Weekend Recap: Local Racers Shine in Chevy Showdown

For the 41st time the East Coasts best Chevy racers invaded Maple Grove Raceway for the annual Super Chevy Showdown. The event has always been one of the popular events at the Grove next to events like the Pep Boys NHRA Nationals and the Geezers at the Grove. The event in 2024 featured a new format in which Saturday and Sunday would feature two separate races for the bracket racers. Meaning two days of races with two days of payouts.

Things kicked off on Friday with a test and tune day for the early arrivals followed by a gamblers race on Friday night. The final round came down to a door car versus a dragster with Lucas Remick  scoring the win over the ’56 Chevy of Todd Schupp. Side note about Remick is he just licensed at the beginning of the month in his dragster after beginning the aging out process in junior dragster. He came out and showed everyone he knew how to get the job done no matter how young he is.

Saturday’s main event races saw several popular local drivers score wins in their respective classes as the sun went down on the track.

In the Chevy Super final, much like the Friday Gamblers race, it came down to a dragster versus a door car between Mike Nahill and Mike Lubniewski. When they hit the finish line it was Nahill in the dragster getting the win over Lubniewski’s Corvette.

Chevy Pro saw former Sunoco ET Series Pro Champion, Robert Smith get the win over second generation racer Jacob Finkbiner.

In Chevy Sportsman, Brian Hine made it back to Winners Circle with the win over Jimbo Romanga in a battle of the Camaros.

Chevy Pro Dial saw a battle of the Chevy S-10s with Brent Miles taking on Michael Card with Miles making the trip back to the Grove’s Winner Circle.

In Outlaw DOT, which is a class for street cars that run quicker then 11.49 seconds in the quarter-mile, Chris Yorek got the win over Michael Herb.

Just like Friday Night, racers had a chance to enter a Gamblers Race on Saturday Night. Seeming like deja vu from Friday night, the final came down to a dragster versus a door car final. It was Nick Reginella Jr. in his yellow and orange dragster taking on the Camaro of David Wing. Ultimately, it was crowd favorite, Reginella who defeated Wing in that final round. Fun fact for fans is that Reginella just happens to be a previous gambler race winner at the Chevy showdown, making this his second career Super Chevy Gamblers win.

No respected Super Chevy Showdown event would be complete without fire breathing, 300mph jet cars. On Saturday, the ever talented, Dawn Purdue driving the Wicked Sensation, got the win over Neil Esposito in the Jersey Attitude in a best of three Match Race.

For Sunday’s main event, several past Maple Grove Track Champions made their way back to Victory Lane.

In Chevy Super, an all dragster final had two time Super Track Champion, Rick Terkowski taking on William Gill, with Terkowski getting the win.

In Chevy Pro, former Track Champion Allen Youndt picked up his first win since his return to racing in 2021 over Sean Thomas.

In Chevy Sportsman, Scott Embley picked up his second straight win at the Chevy Showdown with a win over good friend Gary Coleman.

The Pro Dial Class saw Sean Thomas, who has been to Winner Circle several times over the last few years at Super Chevy, over Tom Corcoran.

JT Banks Jr get his second Outlaw DOT win when he defeated Michael Herb who finished runner up for the second straight day in Outlaw DOT.

With the chutes pulled on the 2024 event the countdown begins the for the 2025 Super Chevy Showdown. Join in on congratulating all your winners from the weekend!
