GUDERSKI GRABS FIRST CAREER FEATURE WIN - JULY 27, 2024

Late Models

Markesan’s Michael Guderski finally captured his first career Late Model feature win on Saturday evening at Jefferson Speedway. Guderski started outside row one and held off the heavy challenge from Kurt Kleven to secure the win in the Field’s Accounting and Tax sponsored 50 lap affair.

Kyle Smith and Guderski brought the field to green with Smith taking the initial lead on lap one as Guderski dropped back to battle Seth Reamer for second. Guderski moved back up to second alone on lap five just before the first of three cautions appeared on lap six. Smith and Guderski led the pack back to green as they battled for the lead. After a good battle, Guderski moved ahead to claim the top spot on lap 15 with Smith back to battle Kleven for second. On lap 17, contact between Smith and Kleven allowed Dale Nottestad to join the fight as they race three wide down the front stretch. But Smith spun in turns one and two to force the second yellow flag of the race.  Kleven and Guderski made up row one for the restart with Guderski reclaiming the lead. The final caution slowed the action at the halfway point of the race. Kleven and Guderski led the field back to racing as the fight for first was on. Lap after lap, the duo raced wheel to wheel searching for an advantage while Nottestad watched intently from third. The pair of drivers traded paint and the lead on several occasions until Guderski gained the advantage, clearing for the lead entering turn one with seven laps remaining. The leaders lined up single file through the finish of the race with Guderski claiming the big win. Kleven finished second with Nottestad, Dylan Schuyler and Mark Deporter completing the top five.

Hobby Stock

Jessica Breunig of Columbus scored her first career Hobby Stock feature by winning the 30 lap event. Breunig and Korey Bengsch brought the field to green as they fought for control of the top spot. After a great side by side battle, Breunig moved into sole possession of the lead on lap nine as Bengsch dropped back to second. Breunig began to separate herself from the pack while Bengsch tried to hold off Ethan Degner for second. Degner drew even with Bengsch on lap 17. After a brief battle, Degner moved ahead to claim second with Bengsch back to third. Meanwhile, Breunig remained in control of the lead, cruising towards the checkers. At the finish, it was Breunig for the convincing win with Degner in second. Jim Tate Jr moved up to finish third followed by Robbie Rucks and Steve Dobbratz.

International

Josh Lenz of Lake Mills got the early lead and never let it go en route to claiming the 20 lap International feature race. After an early caution, Lenz grabbed the lead on the restart with Mark English and David Russell battling for second. English took the second spot for himself onlap four with Weston Strese following into third two laps later. Strese moved up to challenge English, driving to his outside on lap ten. Strese cleared for the runner up position entering turn one on lap 12. Strese began to close in on the leader as the laps ticked away. But Lenz remained strong on the point, driving under the checkers first for the win. Strese settled for second with English, Timothy Higgins and Jason Uttech rounding out the top five.

Bandits

Janesville’s Josh Kienbaum picked up the win in the 20 lap Bandit main event. Starting from the pole, Kienbaum grabbed the early lead on lap one. After a quick caution on lap two, Kienbaum retook possession of the top spot  with Nick Newton back to second. Newton took to the high side, trying to draw back even with the leader. Newton remained to the outside of Kienbaum until lap 13 when the second yellow flap appeared. Kienbaum and Newton led the field back to green once again with Newton trying to hang tough on the outside. Kienbaum moved ahead on lap 15, but Newton fought back to alongside two laps later. Kienbaum cleared for the lead one final time on lap 18 and hung on to score the win. Newton was second followed by Matt Krinke, Tom Schuette and Max Larson.

Bandits - Make Up Feature

The Bandit division also competed in a 25 lap make up feature from a previous night which was cut short due to weather. Chris Gottschalk of Fort Atkinson claimed the checkers for the win. Landon Peterson led early from the pole with Gottschalk quickly up to second on lap three. Gottschalk began to work over Peterson at the front, trying to draw even on the high side of the leader. A caution on lap 12 pitted Peterson and Gottschalk on the front row for the restart. Gottschalk drove to the lead as racing resumed before Peterson spun to the infield to cause another yellow. Gottschalk and Tom Schuette led the field back to green with Gottschalk once again taking control. Max Larson drove up to challenge Schuette for second as they fought for control. Larson and Schuette closed in behind the leader as they raced to the finish. But Gottschalk hung on to cross the stripe first followed by Schuette, Larson, Mason Wilcott and Matt Krinke.

Legends

Ayrton Brockhouse of Shakopee, MN, drove to the front to win the 25 lap Legends feature. Jacob Tiegan shot to the low side on the opening lap from row two to take the lead exiting turn four. After an early caution, Tiegan moved back into the lead on the restart with Alexander Kniewel in second. Dillon Schwanbeck moved up to third on lap six and immediately went to work on Kniewel for second. Schwanbeck made the pass, setting his sights on Tiegan out front. As Schwanbeck closed in on the leader, another caution period slowed the pace on lap 11. Tiegan and Schwanbeck paced the field back to green with Schwanbeck moving ahead to grab control. Brockhouse followed up to second and began to pressure the new leader. On lap 15, Brockhouse got under Schwanbeck entering turn one. Brockhouse cleared for the lead exiting turn four with Lincoln Cain following into second. The leaders remained single file through one final caution with Brockhouse taking the win. Cain was second followed by Schwanbeck, Tiegan and Jacob Stark.
