TF Sport Aston Martin Leads After Opening Hour

0 9

The #90 TF Sport Aston Martin took the lead at the top of the first hour of the 2022 Nurburgring 24 Hours, the Nicki Thiim driven car leapfrogging the then leading group as they pitted later than the cars that had trailed in the earlier laps.

The race was led from the start by the pole setting Ferrari in the hands of Jonathan Hirschi chased by the #99 ROWE BMW of Philipp Eng , the Konrad Lmborghini in the hands of Jordan Pepper and the BMW Junior Team M4 GT3 of Neil Verhagen.

It was a somewhat dynamic opening hour for the Huracan, bounced back from third on lap one by Verhagen but fighting back to briefly take the lead before being passed by Eng in T2, the Ferrari dropping back into a 10 car chasing pack before the pitstop sequence intervened.

There was trouble for a number of cars, notably a trio of top quality Porsches, the #1 ‘Grello’ suffering a double contact with the KCMG 911 and from one of the Dinamic cars, again in T2, the Manthey-run car emerging with damage to the front bumper which was rapidly replaced in the car’s first stop.

The #33 Falken Porsche of Sven Muller was an early pit caller with a front left puncture, dropping the car to the back of the SP9 pack.

And there was trouble too for the sister #44 Falken car, side to side contact from Frederic Vervisch putting Patrick Pilet onto the grass, the double-duty Frenchman lucky to  stay out of the armco and dropping to the back of top class pack.
