GT News Notebook: From IMSA, 24H Series & GT Open

0 9

The CarBahn/ Peregrine Racing Audi R8 LMS that will debut this weekend in IMSA’s Mid Ohio Sprint Cup round has been shown in its full race livery.

The team, stepping up to GTD after success in GT4 machinery in the Michelin Pilot Challenge, fields Richard Heistand and Jeff Westphal in the #39 Audi for the eight round Sprint Cup.

37 Car Entry For 12H Hockenheimring

This weekend sees the latest round of the 24H Series with a 12 Hour encounter at the Hockenheimring, the Series returning for a second year after the German GP venue featured last year as part of the Series’ post-COVID19 lockdown contingency plan, hosting 16 hour race.

That event saw a reduced field and an overall win by the Bas Koeten Porsche from the 911 class after the GT3s present hit trouble

The race sees a 37 car entry with 10 GT3 machines, including a single Herberth entry, though in place of the German squad’s all-conquering Porsches they will field a single Ferrari, this part of the team’s preparations for the 24 Hours of Le Mans when the squad will field a GTE Ferrari 488 as they take up the auto-invitation earned as Asian Le Mans Series GT class Champions.

Part One of the 12H Hockenheimring gets underway on Saturday with the concluding part on Sunday.

Team Lazarus Confirms GT Open Bentley Pairing

Team Lazarus has paired former Bentley factory driver Jordan Pepper and newcomer Ivan Peklin in their #4 Bentley Continental GT3 for the 2021 International GT Open

For 19-year-old Peklin, this will be the first season in GT racing though the Ukrainian racer has undertaken an extensive testing programme with the team during the winter break.

“I’m very excited to step up in GT3 machinery. This is a completely new environment and approach for me, but it’s a challenge I’m up for. From the very first session with the Bentley Continental GT3, I immediately had a good feeling with the car and with such a professional team. I’m happy with the progression I’ve made during testing in Varano, Misano and Barcelona, so I’m really looking forward to seeing the results we can achieve this year.”

2020 Bathurst 12 Hour winner Jordan Pepper is happy to be behind the wheel of the Bentley again.

“Getting the call to drive in the GT Open was an opportunity I couldn’t say no to. I know how successful the team has been in their debut season with Bentley last year. I’m very familiar with the car and it’s nice to start the season in a track where I know we can do well. I’m sure we’ll get up to speed quickly, I look forward to helping Ivan in his first year of GT3 racing.”
