Ross Wylie is looking forward to a busy season of racing with the newly announced Simon Green Motorsport British GT Championship effort added to his already underway GT Cup campaign.

Wylie returns to British GT full-time for the first time since 2016, teaming-up with Lucky Khera to race a Simon Green Motorsport Lamborghini Huracán in the GT3 class of the nine-race series.

Ross, who won the 2014 BGT GT4 category title, has been coaching reigning Ferrari Challenge UK champion Khera since 2019 and claimed fourth place in a one-off BGT race with Lucky and Lee Frost in a Ferrari at Silverstone last November. Ross raced a GT3 class Aston Martin Vantage in BGT in 2016.

Additionally, Ross races a SB Race Engineering prepared Ferrari sportscar in the GT Cup along with Paul Bailey. Wylie joined the GT Cup, coincidentally with Khera, for the Silverstone round last year when the duo claimed second place overall and won the GTC class. The duo bagged second and third places in class in the opening rounds at Silverstone last month and followed those results up with second and fourth placings at Brands Hatch on 1 May.

“I’m really excited to be competing in British GT again. It’s a great series and to be racing a Lambo, which will be a totally new challenge for me, is just amazing. We’d like to challenge for overall podiums but the new Silver-Am class is our primary focus this year. It gives us something to aim at while finding our feet in what is a very competitive series.

“The BGT programme neatly dovetails in with my GT Cup season. It’s not every day a driver gets to race Lamborghini and Ferrari sportscars; legendary, iconic Italian marques. 2021 will be very busy but so exciting.”

Lucky Escape In Britcar Pitlane Shunt

A multi-car accident in a crowded pitlane during the Britcar Endurance race at Snetterton on Saturday mercifully saw no injuries after the #99 VW Golf of Jonathan Beeson was hit by the #6 BMW M3 GTR as both attempted to exit the pits with almost the whole field coming in under the Safety Car.

The luckless Golf was pitched into a half spin, causing a further impact and significant damage to the #91 Praga of Jack Fabby and Charlie Martin.

None of the trio would complete the race which was won by the JMH Automotive Lamborghini Huracan of John Seale and Jamie Stanley, Stanley taking the lead from thr ex RJN Nissan of Danny Harrison in the final 15 minutes.

Team Brit Planning On 2022 British GT Entry

Team BRIT intends to compete in 2022’s Intelligent Money British GT Championship with GT4 class McLaren 570S GT4

The team describe itself as the UK’s leading motorsport programme for drivers with physical and psychological disabilities –

Its current Britcar line-up comprises Bobby Trundley who was diagnosed with severe autism as a child, and Aaron Morgan who is a paraplegic following a motocross accident.

Both currently race an Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4 in the Britcar Endurance series but will switch to a McLaren 570S GT4 for their expected British GT debuts next season.

“This is huge news for us,” said team founder Dave Player. “One of my proudest moments in the history of Team BRIT was purchasing our Aston Martin, which meant we took a step further into seriously competitive racing.

“To now be ready to move on to the British GT Championship – the pinnacle of GT racing in Britain – is testament to the incredible hard work of the team, our sponsors and our drivers, who I know will do everything possible to make this a success.

“Now, our challenge is to build the funding, infrastructure and support we need to be as competitive as possible on track, whilst further developing a sustainable ladder of opportunities for disabled drivers, well into the future.”

McLaren Customer Racing director Ian Morgan added: “I’m delighted Team BRIT has chosen to enter British GT in 2022 with a McLaren 570S GT4. The team’s inspirational approach will help tremendously, and I look forward to following their progress throughout the season.”

Before then, and as well as their Britcar programme, the team intends to create new grassroots sprint-style racing opportunities for novice racers, further building on the team’s ladder of motorsport development for disabled drivers.
