Frikadelli Score Another One-Two In N24 Qualifying Race

0 5

The #31 Frikadelli Racing Porsche of Fred Makowiecki, Patrick Pilet, Maxime Martin and Dennis Olsen took the win in the six-hour ADAC Nurburgring 24 Hours qualifying race on Sunday morning with the Frikadelli team scoring a second consecutive one-two around the ‘Ring after their NLS result just a fortnight ago.

This time around though the finishing order was reversed with the #30 car finishing second for Matt Campbell, Earl Bamber, Nick Tandy and Mathieu Jaminet after Manthey Racing’s ‘Grello’ #911 (Matteo Cairoli, Michael Christensen and Lars Kern) lost its second place on the road after a time penalty for caution flag infringements, the 67 seconds added post-race to leave the car fifth in the final standings behind Phoenix Racing’s #22 Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo (Nicki Thiim, Michele Beretta, Frank Stippler and Vincent Kolb) and the #7 GetSpeed Performance Mercedes-AMG (Maxi Götz, Daniel Juncadella and Fabian Schiller).

The race saw early drama in the four car TCR class with a hefty shunt that accounted for the leading pair of cars, Andreas Guelden in the #173 Mathilda Racing Cupra attempting to fend off the close attentions of Peter Terting in the new #831 Hyundai Elantra N, the Cupra man’s attempts to block eventually seeing contact, the Hyundai tagging Guleden who impacted the barrier before spearing back across the track collecting the Elantra – both drivers mercifully OK.

The pole-sitting Phoenix car led from the start in the hands of Nicki Thiim but was quickly closed down by the eventual winning Frikadelli Porche with Fred Mako putting in a storming run that would give the Porsche squad the opportunity of leapfrogging to the lead in the pits after his second stint.

Phoenix though weren’t done, Frank Stippler with the hammer down as the Audi squad single-stinted their drivers, the German blasting by the #31 along the Döttinger Hohe, the Porsche by then in the hands of Patrick Pilet, but overcooking it as he tried to defend his newly regained advantage, the Audi into the gravel.

That was the end of Phoenix’s race-winning challenge leaving the lead battle between the #31 and the eventually penalised #911.

Completing the eventual top ten were the #44 Falken Porsche (Lance David Arnold, Klaus Bachler, Sven Müller, Martin Ragginger), the #98 ROWE Racing BMW (Connor de Phillippi, Martin Tomczyk, Sheldon van der Linde), the #1 ROWE BMW (Nicky Catsburg, John Edwards, Philipp Eng and Nick Yelloly), the #8 Mercedes-AMG Team GetSpeed car (Dirk Müller, Fabian Schiller, Matthieu Vaxiviere) and the #18 KCMG Porsche (Josh Burdon, Marco Holzer, Alexandre Imperatori, Eduardo Liberati).
