Peterborough Speedway Adjusts its 2021 Line-Up Due to COVID-19

A trip to the hometown speedway is more than a fun night out. It’s a family tradition – passed down through the ages – from generation to generation.
For the second time in as many seasons, officials at Peterborough Speedway have been forced to make changes in the posted schedule because of restrictions put in place as the province deals with the continuing Coronavirus pandemic. Track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse says his team is working on a calendar that will allow fans and competitors alike to enjoy racing in 2021.
“When we first put together this year’s schedule, we knew there was still a possibility that things wouldn’t go exactly as we’d planned. Even though we still have to dot the I’s and cross the T’s, we’ll come up with a line-up that will fit the provincial regulations and can be changed or adapted as required,” Josiasse said. “We have to thank the families that have supported the track for more than half a century to do whatever we can to reward their loyalty to our brand.”
With an emphasis on the continued health, safety and wellbeing of everyone coming through the pit gate or main grandstand entrance, management is looking at a plan that would see regular season racing begin Saturday, June 5th and continue every other weekend until Labour Day. The allowable crowd size limits and event protocol would be subject to government approval. Josiasse says when things come together, the team will do its best to preserve the integrity of the original schedule.
“We owe a lot to our home track Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock, Jiffy Lube Mini Stock, Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck, KOD Disposal Super Stock and Late Model classes,” J.P. Josiasse said. “We’ve also made a commitment to some of the province’s top touring divisions including the Ontario Legends Series, OSCAAR Modified and Hot Rod teams to name a few. We’ll work hard to keep those shows on the newest version of the schedule.”
According to Josiasse, track staff and officials are putting the finishing touches on the latest version of the schedule, while reviewing and updating social distancing regulations and protocol to make sure everything is set to go when they open the gates for the 2021 calendar; in whatever form it may take.
