Conway Tops Friday’s Second Session In #31 Cadillac

0 8

Friday’s two sessions for the Roar before the Rolex 24 saw two Action Express-run Cadillacs, and two reigning FIA WEC World Champions each top the times.

After Kamui Kobayashi’s run in the first session saw the sister #48 top the times with a mark that would stay the fastest of the day, the afternoon session saw his 2019/20 Toyota team-mate Mike Conway put the sister #31 Whelen Engineering-backed Action Express Cadillac DPi-V.R on top with a 1:36.225.

That was just good enough to the better the best effort of Juan Pablo Montoya in the #60 Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-05 whose best was just 6 thousandths shy of Conway.

Third fastest was Scott Dixon was third fastest in the #01 Chip Ganassi Racing’s Cadillac, a further quarter second down on the leading pair.

LMP2

LMP2 was led by the #29 Racing Team Nederland Oreca in the hands of Giedo van der Garde, a 1:37.991 in the cars first track action after the team missed session one waiting for freight delivered late to DIS.

That mark was just under half a tenth up on Mikkel Jensen in the #52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports car.

Third fastest in class in the session was Matthieu Vaxiviere in the #8 Tower Motorsports 07, half a second down on Jensen.

LMP3

For the second successive session the leading LMP3s and GTLMs were interspersed – and again it was an LMP3 ahead of the GTs.

Muehlner Motorsports USA topped both sessions of the day, the time with the timing showing that Moritz Kranz was at the wheel of the #6 Duqueine, seven tenths up on Joao Barbosa’s #33 Sean Creech Motorsports Ligier JS P320 Nissan.

Oliver Askew was a further half second back in the #74 Riley Robinson Ligier.

GTLM

Tommy Milner topped the GTLM pack with a 1:44.062 in the #4 Corvette C8.R just four hundredths clear of the #24 BMW M8 GTE in the hands of Jesse Krohn.

Davide Rigon rounded out the top three in the #62 Risi Ferrari, four tenths down on the leading Corvette.

GTD

GT Daytona saw thirteen cars separated by just seven tenths of a second with Marcos Gomes leading the way with a 1:46.731 in the #63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo.

A pair of Mercedes AMGs were next up with Philip Ellis in the #57 Winward Racing AMG GT3 Evo ahead of the #75 SunEnergy1 car of Mikael Grenier.
