McFadden goes one better at Merger Contracting Sprintcar Muster

0 22

James McFadden raced to the top of the WA Sprintcar Speedweek standings following round two of the series on Monday night at Perth Motorplex.

The Victorian McFadden improved from his second place finish on opening night and was once again trailed by American star Brock Zearfoss, while local James Inglis drove to a solid third position.

McFadden and Zearfoss deployed different strategies across the race, with McFadden sticking to a low line on the corners while Zearfoss searched for speed close to the fence. A changing track offered constant tests for the feature race field.

“(The track) had a bit of everything,” McFadden said. “Early on I thought it was really good, Brock could run the top and I could run the bottom, though I thought the middle was where the race was going to be won.”

McFadden and the Monte Motorsport team are now focused on coming rounds at Bunbury (January 1) and Ellenbrook (January 2) before returning to Perth Motorplex (January 6 and 9).

“I think I need to work on finishing the race off better,” he said. “The car is pretty solid out of the box. We have had a few changes with the car over winter which took us a while to get used to but we are on top of it now.”

Zearfoss said his knowledge of the Perth Motorplex speedway track was turned upside down as different lines emerged.

“The feature turned out to be 180 degrees different to Saturday night,” he said. “All the videos you watch from here are top line dominant. I was going to run the top until James beat me. Then I moved down to a lower line and found the rubber there too.

“We ended up second quickest in qualifying overall, and we are working really good as a team. I can’t be happier with the results for both nights.”

The Merger Contracting Sprintcar Muster played host to over 100 teams across multiple disciplines. Other winners on the night including Daniel Hartigan (360 Sprintcars), Michael Keen (Martin Laughton Limited Sprintcars), Brendon Wedge (Red Pepper Wingless Sprints) and Ryan Higgs (Formula 500s).

The WA Sprintcar Speedweek returns to Perth Motorplex on January 6 for a rare Wednesday night showdown, before the Grand Final takes place alongside the Late Model Nationals on January 9. For more information, visit www.motorplex.com.au
