Chairmans Rubbish – January 2021
I trust you all had, despite the Covid restrictions, an enjoyable and safe Christmas even if it was totally different to what you were expecting because of the restrictions. At the time of writing Wiltshire is in Tier 2 so most of us can still have a resemblance of a normal life but Motorsport has been severely restricted because of the tier system as travel especially has been curtailed.
Bath Motor Club are hoping to run the Festival in February with DDMC running a test and we hope to run our March autosolo at Kemble. This event will be published nationally as it will be a round ( probably the first ) of The Street Car Cup and thus likely to be over subscribed. I still do not know about The Driveshaft running in April but unless Wiltshire drops down to Tier 1 then it is very unlikely to run as PR work has to be done. It is possible, that subject to suitable start and finish areas, 12 cars can recommence probably using the App system on smart phones – this is an item on January’s agenda for discussion. The meeting will again be a zoom meeting – details will have been sent round by e-mail and thanks to Roger Fletcher we have an upgraded computer and should be able to zoom not just telephone.
By August a lot of the country should be vaccinated and this should mean that The Valley & Villages Classic Tour should be able to run. Janet and myself have again been asked to run a stage on this year’s 3 Shires Closed Road Rally on Sunday September 5th. It will be sort of the same stage but running the other way round and with a big loop making it almost twice as long. We are hoping for similar or even more support from club members – especially as it now on a Sunday – and what with our sign written Gazaboos and other banners and flags DDMC were especially noticed let alone the fact that the safety officer thought it was the best laid out stage and up to international standards – more details to follow later in the year.
