Carbahn Audi Takes Pole At Laguna Seca
The #39 Carbahn Racing Audi R8 GT4 rebounded from their retirement at Road Atlanta to secure pole position for Saturday’s race at Laguna Seca. It’s the best first step they could have taken in trying to claw back the points they lost out on.
Tyler McQuarrie’s best time in the #39 Audi was a 1:30.400, over half a second quicker than anyone else in the field.
Nate Stacy in the #60 Kohr Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage, the car that currently leads the championship, ended the session in second. Stacy was 0.589 seconds behind McQuarrie’s time. Rounding out the top three was Russell Ward in the #4 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4. His best time was a 1:31.817.
With the #39 Audi and the #60 Aston Martin showing such quick pace compared to the rest of the field, it sets up an enticing race that will have big championship implications. But with a twenty-point gap between the two, the #60 Aston Martin could be tough to reach.
In TCR, Bryan Herta Autosport locked out the top three spots in a dominating performance from the team with their Hyundai Veloster N entries.
The #21 Hyundai of Harry Gottsacker secured pole position with a 1:33.417. Mason Filippi in the #98 Hyundai was second with a 1:33.518. Rounding out the top three was Ryan Norman in the #33 Hyundai whose best time was a 1:33.661.
The best non-Hyundai time came from Max Faulkner in the #23 SPEED MD Racing Audi RS3 LMS TCR. Faulkner’s best lap was a 1:33.712.
Saturday’s race is set for 3:35 p.m. PDT/22:35 UTC.
