Silverstone Dropped From GT World Challenge Europe Schedule
SRO’s GT World Challenge Europe has followed the FIA World Endurance Championship, European Le Mans Series and International GT Open in deciding not to visit Silverstone in 2021 with SRO’s Stephane Ratel joining LMEM’s Gerard Neveu in name-checking the uncertainty surrounding logistical certainties following the UK’s exit from the European Union as a major contributory factor in the decision.
There is a UK stop on the GT World Challenge Europe Schedule at Brands Hatch but that is for the opening round of the Sprint Cup with fewer teams and cars involved in the main race and the associated support events.
Indeed the Brands Hatch round is listed as a back to back weekend with Magny Cours’ Round 2 of the Sprint Cup an arrangement that Ratel explained has come about as a result of close liaison with ADAC GT Masters to avoid a clash with their season opener at Oschersleben on the weekend following Magny Cours.
Silverstone’s decade long place on the Endurance calendar is taken by Barcelona with a season finale in October.
There are few other changes to a regular ‘steady-state’ provisional schedule with only a yet to be announced venue for September’s Sprint Cup finale outstanding.
