BIR’s ET Finals team takes 2nd. Again.
For the third year in a row, a team of drag racers from Brainerd International Raceway last weekend came up just short of winning the annual NHRA Summit Racing ET Finals team event at Heartland Motorsports Park in Topeka, Kan. The team finished second.
Jason Charlton and Shawn Carlson provided the biggest highlights for BIR’s team. Both earned their way to the finals of their class but Charlton closed the deal by winning the Pro ET class, which earned him a check for $5,000 from BIR and a trip to the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway next month to compete for a national title during the Dodge NHRA Finals presented by Pennzoil.
Carlson lost in the finals of the Sportsman class, missing a chance to race in Las Vegas with Charlton by a fraction of a second.
Charlton and Carlson were two of the 36 racers on BIR’s team, which competed in five classes: Super Pro, Pro ET, Sportsman, Motorcycle and High School. In all, 16 race tracks from throughout the Midwest sent teams to the ET Finals, with nearly 600 drag racers battling for the chance to compete in Las Vegas.
The teams competing in the ET Finals are from dragstrips in the NHRA’s West Central Division, which stretches from Wyoming to Wisconsin and from Colorado to Kansas, including part of Canada.
Congratulations to all the racers who competed! Making BIR proud!
