FENNIG KEY TO ROUSH FENWAY SUPERSPEEDWAY SUCCESS

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 17, 2019) – When it comes to superspeedway racing, Roush Fenway Racing is no stranger to success. And superspeedway expert Jimmy Fennig is a key reason why.

Fennig started with the organization in 1996 and helped guide the team through some of its most successful runs. As Mark Martin’s crew chief he captured 14 wins, 73 top-five finishes and 11 top-10s. Fennig is also a two-time Daytona 500 winner, helping Roush Fenway to its 300th NASCAR victory at the iconic race in 2012 with Matt Kenseth.

The legend has quite an impressive resume. Before he started working at Roush Fenway, the former crew chief took NASCAR legend and hall of famer Bobby Allison to Victory Lane.

“I’m old,” Fennig explained. “I won this thing in 1988 with Bobby Allison and that made me love coming to Daytona. I have a lot of memories here and it’s a special race.”

The rules in the sport have changed numerous times over the years, but Fennig hasn’t missed a beat. While new rules may be harder for the team to adjust to, he thinks it’s necessary to keep fans interested.

“It’s a new challenge for me,” Fennig said. “You have to keep doing stuff differently. Hopefully, they’ll keep putting on better racing than they did in the past. You have to keep entertaining the fans.”

As he begins his 34th season in NASCAR, he looks to bring Roush Fenway its third Daytona 500 victory.

“Winning any race means a lot to me and everybody here at Roush,” Fennig said. “Winning the 500 would mean winning the biggest race of the year. This first one is like the Super Bowl.”

After a rain-delayed start, the 62nd Annual Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway will continue on Feb. 17 at 4 p.m. EST on FOX.
