TEAM GB will have just THREE days to get ready for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Next year’s World Athletics Championships in the USA have been moved back 11 months following the rescheduling of this summer’s Tokyo Olympics.

Team GB stars including Dina Asher-Smith face a crowded schedule in the coming years

The postponed Worlds will now take place in Oregon from July 15-24, 2022.

And Brits will be straight back into action at the Commonwealth Games, which start on July 27 and run until August 7 that year.

There will be no time for a breather after that, either, as the European championships in Munich are pencilled in for August 11-21.

All that means there are THREE major track-and-field events within the space of just 38 days.

UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY

World Athletics president Lord Coe tried to put a positive spin on the crazy congestion, saying: “This will be a bonanza for athletics fans around the world.

“They will be treated to six weeks of absolutely first-class athletics.

“We were very mindful that we did not want to damage the other major championships in 2022.

“We would not have chosen to have three major championships back-to-back but it will give us a unique opportunity to promote our sport and its stars around the globe.”

Meanwhile, two of Britain’s biggest Olympic sport bodies have placed their staff on furlough.

British Cycling is putting 90 employees — a third of its workforce — on the government job retention scheme as it anticipates a £4million drop in income.

The CEO and leadership team will take a ten per cent pay cut until the end of June.

And UK Athletics confirmed it was placing up to 12 head office staff on furlough. But there are no plans to cut the pay of senior staff.
