Giants and Athletics broadcasts will sound different Sunday with Kuiper brothers away

The Bay Area’s baseball broadcast teams are playing a bit shorthanded this weekend.

With Duane and Glen Kuiper back home in Wisconsin for their father’s funeral service, NBC Sports Bay Area has been making use of its deep bench.

Henry Kuiper, a farmer and local softball legend in Racine, Wisconsin, died Wednesday at 94.

On Sunday afternoon’s broadcast of the Giants’ game at the Diamondbacks, Jon Miller will be working in a two-man booth for NBCSBA along with longtime Giants color analyst Mike Krukow.

There won’t be the customary TV/radio crossover with KNBR, though, as the radio booth is also affected by missing parts. Dave Flemming is away in Williamsport, Pennsylvania for the Little League World Series, meaning San Jose Giants play-by-play man Joe Ritzo steps up to the mic on the radio call alongside former Giants pitcher Shawn Estes.

And as the A’s go for their own four-game sweep, Vince Cotroneo slides from the radio booth to NBC Sports California to fill in for Glen Kuiper. He’ll be calling the game alongside former A’s pitcher and personality Dallas Braden.
