Women’s Tennis Ranked No. 36 in Final Rankings

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas women’s tennis team was ranked No. 36 in the final ITA/Oracle rankings, released by the organization on Wednesday.

“I’m incredibly proud of the success this special team had this year,” said interim head coach Ruth Seaborne. “With a year full of adversity, they grew together and overcame so many obstacles and managed to become successful at the highest level. The future is very bright for these student-athletes and young women.”

Freshman Indianna Spink had a season for the record books, finishing her rookie campaign slotted No. 38 in singles. Over the course of the spring, she racked up three SEC Freshman of the Week awards, was named SEC Freshman of the Year, All-SEC First Team and earned a spot at the NCAA Championships.

Spink played the entirety of the conference season at the number one and two spots for the Razorbacks, accumulating a 6-2 record. Spink tallied five ranked wins in her rookie campaign and never lost to an unranked opponent dating back to the fall season.

Teammate Morgan Cross also had a notable freshman year, garnering ITA/Oracle Freshman of the Week recognition and a spot on the All-SEC Freshman Team. The Wales, U.K. native accumulated a 17-8 record in doubles play this year, including a 15-2 run to kick off the fall season.

Cross first appeared in the ITA doubles rankings at No. 72 with her partner, senior Tatum Rice after a 3-2 start and since improved to No. 38 with a win in post-season over Old Dominion’s Yulia Starodubtseva and Alesya Yakubovich. Cross and Rice climbed back from a 4-3 deficit to win three-straight games and register a 6-4 win for the Hogs.

The Razorbacks completed their seventh-consecutive season at .500 or better, finishing the year with an overall record of 11-11 and making the program’s first NCAA appearance since 2015.
