LAST TIME OUT

  • No. 17 Arkansas (11-4, 2-3) bounced back in Bud Walton Arena on Thursday night, holding off Florida (7-6, 0-5), 84-80.
  • Redshirt senior guard Chelsea Dungee took over in this one, lighting up the scoreboard to the tune of 33 points, a new season-high.
  • She did a ton of her damage at the free throw line, hitting all 17 of her free throw attempts, matching her career-high in freebies made (17-19, Auburn, 2/7/19), which matched her own program record.
  • Redshirt senior Destiny Slocum continued her strong play for the Hogs on Thursday, scoring 17 points and grabbing five rebounds.
  • Amber Ramirez and Makayla Daniels also scored in double-figures, notching 12 and 11 points, respectively.
  • Dungee scored 30+ for the tenth time in her career, and the second time this season.
  • That is the most games ever of 30+ in program history.
  • Dungee becomes the first SEC player to hit 17+ free throws in a game twice in a career.
  • Senior forward Taylah Thomas nearly double-doubled against the Gators, going for nine points and eight boards.

STORYLINES

  • No. 17 Arkansas is 2-3 over its first five games in SEC play, falling to Kentucky, Texas A&M and Tennessee, all of which are now ranked, while beating Missouri and Florida at home.
  • The Hogs fell in the polls again this week, dropping from 13 to 17 in the AP Poll and 13 to 16 in the Coaches Poll.
  • Arkansas also fell in the NET Rankings, moving down to 24. They are now 5-4 against teams in the top 100, and have a win over Baylor, who is ranked fifth.
  • In a year where games played is at a premium, Arkansas leads the country in the category, playing in 15 games so far this season.
  • The Razorbacks are also just one of nine teams in the nation to have won 11 or more games.
  • The difficult schedule continues for the Hogs, as the team’s next two opponents, South Carolina (3) and Georgia (16), are both in the top 20 in the NET rankings.
  • Both of those games will also come on the road, where the Hogs are 0-2 during conference play.
  • Chelsea Dungee has been on a tear to start conference play, averaging 25.8 points per game through the first five SEC contests.
  • That mark is second in the league, behind only reigning SEC Player of the Year Rhyne Howard.
  • Dungee has gone for 20+ in all five SEC games thus far, scoring 20 against Kentucky, 25 against Missouri, 30 against Tennessee, 21 against Texas A&M and 33 against Florida.
  • Her performance against Florida was truly historic – Dungee matched her own program record for made free throws (17-17), and became the only SEC player ever to hit 17+ in multiple games.
  • Dungee also leads the league in threes made during conference play, hitting 13 of them so far, and free throws made, hitting 38 of her 42 attempts.
  • Dungee has now scored 30+ 10 times in her career, the most 30 point games in program history.
  • Her consistency scoring the ball this season has been on display, as she has scored in double-figures in 18 straight games.

SCOUTING SOUTH CAROLINA

  • South Carolina has been outstanding on the glass this season, especially on the offensive end.
  • The Gamecocks are fourth in the nation in rebounds per game (52.2) and third in rebounding margin (+18.9)
  • They have out-rebounded three of their last four opponents by at least 24 and have not been out-rebounded this season.
  • South Carolina is also fourth in the country in offensive rebounds per game (19.1), reeling in an SEC-best 46.2 percent of its own missed shots to average 17.2 second-chance points.
  • The Gamecocks’ starting backcourt of Zia Cooke and Destanni Henderson is building a substantial resume this season.
  • Cooke is sixth in the SEC with a team-best 18.8 points per game, hitting 2.3 3-pointers per game to rank sixth in the SEC.
  • She does that while adding 3.0 assists per game.
  • Henderson is third on the team with 12.1 points per game, including a pair of 20-point outings.
  • Her 5.5 assists per game are 21st in the country (2nd in the SEC), and her 3.1 assist-to-turnover ratio is 29th in the nation (3rd in the SEC).
  • Sophomore forward Aliyah Boston continues to show off her expanding game this season with four double-figure rebound games, six double-figure scoring games and 1.6 blocks per game.
  • She is one of three players in the SEC averaging a double-double on the season and one of two who also rank among the league’s top 10 in blocked shots.
  • She is shooting 35.7 percent from 3-point range (5-of-14) and, in league play, she ranks seventh in steals per game at 2.5
