Razorbacks Wrap Up Day One at Texas and Missouri

Fayetteville, Ark.- The Arkansas Swim and Dive team got off to a solid start on Thursday in both of the team’s meets at Missouri and Texas.

At the Mizzou Invite, the swimmers were impressive in the pool early in prelims and late in the finals. Peyton Palsha jumpstarted the team by winning the 500-yard freestyle prelim in the morning with a time of 4:40.95. In the first day of finals, the Arkansas ‘A’ relay team posted a second-place finish with a time of 1:29.77 in the 200-yard freestyle. Adela Vavrinova showed out in the 200-yard individual medley, coming in second and setting a new personal best with a time of 1:58.10.

Andrea Sansores and Emily Barclay both had great outings in the 50-yard freestyle, coming in third and fourth. The Arkansas ‘A’ relay team capped off the night by winning the 400-yard medley relay and setting a new school record with a time of 3:34.49. In the relay, Sansores also set a new school record with a time of 52.90 in the 100-yard backstroke.

The Razorback divers had a solid first day showing in Austin at the UT Diving Invite. In the three-meter dive, Brooke Schultz came in second with a score 359.10. Maha Amer also had a good day, finishing fourth with a score of 341.40. The divers will be back in action tomorrow, competing in the one-meter dive.

Quotables

Arkansas Head Coach Neil Harper: “Our ladies had both a great start and end to the first day. Peyton going 4:40 in the 500 was the second fastest time in the country. Adela did a great job almost winning the 200 IM in a personal best tonight. In the 50, we had three outstanding swims Emily’s 22.4 this morning, Kobie’s 22.5 and Andrea’s 22.7 this evening. The highlight, however, was the final event, the 400 Medley Relay. We won, we broke a five-year school record and Andrea led off the relay with a 100-backstroke new school record of 52.9. A great first day and we are excited about more racing tomorrow.”

Arkansas Diving Coach: “Texas always dives tough at home. I was pleased with the way we competed tonight.”
