Bucknam Reveals 2019 Cross Country Schedule

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Head coach Chris Bucknam announced the 2019 men’s cross country schedule that includes seven meets in five states capped by the NCAA Championships hosted by Indiana State University.

“We are looking forward to the start the season,” said head coach Chris Bucknam. “We build each meet throughout the season, culminating in the SEC and NCAA championships. I know our team is hard at work this summer preparing for the season ahead.”

The Arkansas men’s cross country team will kick off another strong Razorback campaign, opening up on Aug. 31 at the Hurricane Invitational in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Following the Hurricane Invitational, Arkansas will travel to Boston, Mass. For the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown hosted by Boston College. Arkansas’ last trip to Boston in 2016 saw Alex George take the individual title while the Razorbacks took third as a team.

Fans will get a chance to see the Hogs race at home for the first of two opportunities this year, as Bucknam’s squad will look to defend their title at the 31st Annual Chile Pepper Festival on Oct. 5 at Agri Park.

The site of this year’s NCAA Championships, Arkansas will travel to Terre Haute, Ind. on Oct. 19 to take part in the Pre-National Invitational hosted by Indiana State University at LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.

The postseason competition will kick off with the SEC Championships in Lexington, Ky. on Nov. 1. Arkansas will then return to Fayetteville on Nov. 15 for the NCAA South Central Region Championships at Agri Park before closing out the season on Nov. 23 in Terre Haute at the NCAA Championships.

“We are especially excited to host our NCAA South Central Regional this year,” said Bucknam. “Advancing to the NCAA Championship is one of our main goals each and every year and hosting the regional gives our team a great opportunity to do this at home.”

Last year’s squad finished runner-up at the SEC meet SEC, captured the South Central Regional title, and took 25th-place finish at the NCAA meet in Madison, Wis.

Amongst the list of returning veterans is last year’s SEC Champion and SEC Runner of the Year, Gilbert Boit, along with Second-Team All-SEC selection Ryan Murphy.
