Reigning SEC Champs Unveil 2019 Cross Country Slate

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Reigning SEC women’s cross country coach of the year Lance Harter announced the 2019 Arkansas women’s cross country schedule that includes nine meets in six states capped by the NCAA Championships hosted by Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN.

We’re super excited about this upcoming season,” said head coach Lance Harter. “The progression of our returning crew from last year though the track & field seasons were off the charts.  We’re really excited about the opportunities that present themselves this year with the amount of experience and the amount of depth that we have along with some very exciting newcomers.”

The Arkansas women’s cross country team will kick off another strong season, opening up on Aug. 31 at the Hurricane Preview in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Following the season-opening meet, Arkansas will split between Joplin, Mo. for the Missouri Southern Invite and the John McNichols Invite in Terre Haute, IN, with both meets slated for Sept. 21.

The Razorbacks will return to Indiana a week later as they travel to the Joe Piane Invite in South Bend, IN on Sept. 27.

Fans will get a chance to see the Razorbacks race at home for the first of two occasions this year, as Harter’s squad looks to defend their title at the 31st Annual Chile Pepper Festival on Oct. 5 at Agri Park in Fayetteville.

The following week, Arkansas heads north to on Oct. 19 to take part in the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invite hosted by the University of Wisconsin, last year’s host for the NCAA Championships.

The postseason competition will kick off with the SEC Championships in Lexington, Ky. on Nov. 1. Arkansas will then return to Fayetteville on Nov. 15 for the NCAA South Central Region Championships at Agri Park before closing out the season on Nov. 23 in Terre Haute at the NCAA Championships.

Amongst the list of returning veterans is last year’s SEC Freshman Runner of the Year, Katrina Robinson, along with First-Team All-SEC cross country honorees Lauren Gregory, Carina Viljoen, Taylor Werner, and Second-Team All-SEC selection Maddy Reed.

“Being able to defend our SEC title in Kentucky and then return home to defend our regional title is super exciting. It’s always super exciting to run in front of our home fans.” Harter finished.

Last year’s squad captured a sixth-straight SEC, and eighth-straight South Central Regional title en route to a 13th-place finish at the NCAA meet in Madison, Wis.
