JOP Tournament Sun, Apr 6 – no regular club shoots

Just a reminder that this Sunday, April 6, there will be no regular afternoon club shoots (JOP or adults) as the club will be hosting a JOP Indoor Championships tournament from 1pm-4pm. But if you would like to come watch some talented young archers compete, they would appreciate your support!

And on that note, our juniors did well in the JOP Regionals. Natalie Pika was 2nd, Ruby Eliason 3rd, Maddox Eliason 1st and Jiayi Yuan 1st in their categories! And in the JOP Mailmatch, Ruby Eliason was 1st, Maddox Eliason 1st, Jiayi Yuan 3rd in their categories. Well done all!

Shooting etiquette reminders

As you all well know, our practice sessions are becoming very popular, so we’d like to remind everyone of the basic etiquette and procedures for indoor shooting.

  • You should arrive before shooting starts to help set up the necessary butts. If you arrive late, those who came early have to wait for you.
  • There should be 4 targets to a butt. Some people shoot faster than others, so pick a butt that’s empty when they’re still shooting and add a target there. If you must put up another butt, do it quickly between ends.
  • You should only shoot 3 arrows. It is OK to shoot more, but not if you’re holding up the line. We will wait for you to shoot your 3, but we should not have to wait for you to shoot anymore.
  • Each archer should expect to have their own ‘space’ (in tournaments, it’s 80cm), you should not encroach on this space. This includes your bow, your arrows, stabilizers or anything else you may have.
  • Lastly, please stay to help put the butts and equipment away when the shoot has wrapped up.

Thanks to all for your cooperation!

Outdoor shooting opportunities

Starting soon, the club will have limited have access to the outdoor range at the South Vancouver Island Rangers. They will soon be hosting outdoor practices there, probably Wednesday evenings and Saturday late mornings. To check for shooting go to their website calendar and check it before heading out. Ff it says ‘Archery’ there will be someone there. There is a $10 drop in charge for shooting.

Coaching candidates reminder

If you participated in the Instructor of Beginner Archers coaching clinic we hosted last June (2024), just a reminder that you have a year to complete your certification, and June is approaching fast! We need more coaches, so please continue and finish up if you can. The club will subsidize your clinic fee upon successful completion of your certification.

Long-time member Andrew Reeve passes away

Some sad news to report – our long-time member Andrew Reeve has passed after a prolonged battle with cancer, and our thoughts and condolences go out to his family. Andrew served as the 55+ Games representative for many years and was a staple at Victoria Bowmen tournaments for the past 20+ years!
