Guildford Archery Club receives The King’s Award for Voluntary Service!

We are super-proud to announce that GAC has been awarded The King’s Award for Voluntary Service.

This is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE!

As you know, GAC is an exceptional organization that provides a welcoming and inclusive environment for archers of all levels. The club’s success is largely due to the selfless dedication of its volunteers, who give their time and expertise to support its operations and promote the sport of archery. From coaching and mentoring new members to organizing events and maintaining facilities, the club’s volunteers are the backbone of its operations. Their efforts have created a thriving community of archers who share a passion for the sport and a commitment to its growth. Their volunteering endeavours have made a significant impact on the club’s success and continue to inspire new generations of archers.

We are one of 262 local charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups to receive the prestigious award this year. The King’s Award for Voluntary Service aims to recognise outstanding work by local volunteer groups which benefits their communities. It was created in 2002 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee and, following his accession, His Majesty The King emphasised his desire to continue the Award.

The process of proposing the club and providing all of the required background and supporting facts and figures was all done about a year ago, with the recipients being officially announced on 14th November, The King’s Birthday. 

6 Representatives of Guildford Archery Club will receive the award crystal and certificate from HM Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey Michael More-Molyneux later this year or early next year. In addition, two volunteers from Guildford Archery Club will attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace in May and June 2024, along with other recipients of this year’s Award. 

This is a HUGE award for our club and a well-deserved recognition of the time, skill and effort of hundreds of volunteers over the last 70 years who have contributed to the building of our fabulous club as we know it today!
