Helena Myllyniemi to be inducted into the Victoria Sports Hall of Fame!
Some huge news to share with you all: this coming fall our very own Helena Myllyniemi will be inducted into the Victoria Sports Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2023!
Many of you have taken classes with Helena or seen her leading the JOP, but she has done so much more for the sport locally, nationally and internationally over her long career in archery, including coaching Canada in the Pan Am Games and mentoring the several Olympians who came out of our club.
Please join us in a heartfelt congratulations for this much-deserved recognition! After the induction ceremony in the fall, plaques honouring the Class of 2023 will join those of the 260 previous inductees on the concourse walls of Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre. Read more here
2023 Canadian Outdoor Archery Championships
We’re sure you’re all aware of the Nationals coming up August 7 -12. That’s just 10 weeks from now! Please try and commit some time to help out on those days, information on our website and Archery Canada’s – If you have decided to shoot the event, you can register there also.
- We’ll soon have the clothing in, so watch for your chance to get first dibs on the beautiful shirts, hats and pins. And speaking of the pins – Al and Helena have them for sale for $5, just catch us at indoor shooting.
- We still have lots of sponsorship vacancies to fill. If you, your company or someone you know might be interested in sponsoring, please check out our sponsorship page.
Help needed with Field Course set up
We have to build a new Field Course on what is called the Gary Oak Loop (above the Library) at West Shore Recreation. That is going to happen June 26-28 and we’re going to need some help so if you can help out during the day, please contact Greg.
Club members score big at recent tournaments!
Several of our adult and junior members competed in recent tournaments and we want to congratulate them on their fantastic successes. Nice shooting, everyone!

Lawn tractor for sale
The club is about to divest itself of our lawn tractor, as it’s not doing it any good to be just sitting in storage. We’d like to give members the first chance at it before we offer it for sale to the public. It is a 1999 John Deere LX 176. Offers starting at $1,200. Societies Act and changes to club bylaws
As a registered society in B.C., we are governed by the Societies Act, which makes sure we have a proper Constitution and Bylaws (both are on our website). There have been significant changes in how societies must be run and how they most report. For the most part, they are much less restrictive and easier to deal with. They will, however, probably require a re-write of our Bylaws – not for the feint of heart! But if you’re interested in that sort of thing the new rules are outlined here. Then let the President know if you wish to assist in the fall.
