December 2022 Newsletter

Lots of news, reminders, updates and more to share with you this month!

Membership renewal time!

Just a reminder that it’s time to renew your club memberships for 2023! It’s a quick process via our website and after renewing your membership, you’ll receive a link to a PDF file of your membership card that you can print out. We look forward to another year of archery with all of you! Lifetime members will need to get a coupon code from Larry Gagnon.

Click here to renew your membership today

Remember, it’s important to renew your membership by Jan 1, 2023 as the insurance included in membership is a requirement of Archery Canada, BC Archery, and Saanich Commonwealth (for our indoor shoots). Uninsured archers are not allowed to shoot.

We also ask that members display their cards clearly so they can be seen. Al has the club laminator should anyone want their card laminated.

Some club “housekeeping” items to note

  • Signing in – Yes, we still want you to sign in at every indoor shoot. It is necessary for our reporting of insured members, any guests, and for our own data.
  • Monday Night Drop In – This program has been seeing very few shooters lately and is in jeopardy of being cancelled. So if you want to keep Monday nights, you should be sure to participate.
  • Indoor butts – We now have some extra black bungee cords to attach the large indoor butts to the stands. Please be sure to have 2 people when lifting these butts as they’re very heavy.
  • Range Safety Officers – The club can always use more Range Safety Officers (RSOs) and the training is very good at informing you how to run our sport safely. Training is free, online, and consists of reading and an open book exam. You can then be added to the club list of RSOs.
  • Volunteers – the club is always in need of help running the JOP and our shooting programs. If you would like to help, please see Helena or Al.

Tournament news

  • With the BC Winter Games coming up in March 2023, trials will take place at Saanich Commonwealth Dec 11th at 1pm. We should be able to be run this without interfering with the normal Sunday club shoot, however everyone is asked to cooperate so these athletes can compete.
  • The 2023 Indoor Mailmatch will begin Jan 5, 2023 with medal ceremony for Victoria Bowmen 2022 Mailmatch medalists preceding it.
  • We are looking to host a few tournaments this winter/spring, and are looking at hosting the Canadian Regional Indoor championships March 5th, and perhaps a few ‘informal events’.
  • 2023 Canadian Championships: Please mark your calendars for August 8 – 12. We’ll need helpers for that period, and we’d also like to encourage members to compete! Watch for a volunteer survey early in 2023. If you know you can help out or want more information, please contact Al.

Have marketing/sponsorship experience? We need your help!

With the aforementioned 2023 Canadian Championships next August, we are in desperate need of someone for our committee with some experience in sponsorship and marketing! If you are able to assist or lend your expertise with securing some event sponsors, please let Al know!

Al’s Archery Museum Open House December 28th 2–6 PM

You are invited to come and see Al’s vast collection of bows, arrows, accessories, books, magazines and all thing archery. You can see most of it on his website (archeryguy.com), but this is your chance to see it all up close and actually touch the stuff! Light snacks and refreshments will be served. The address is 758 Cuaulta Crescent.

Send some cheer to Ralph Clark

Our friend Ralph has had a bit of a health situation the past 6 weeks or so. He came down with a very serious lung infection and has been in the hospital for over a month. He is recovering now and the plan is for him to be home on December 1st. So perhaps some of the former ‘Morning Shooters’ could give him a call, we’re sure he would appreciate the support!
