A busy winter of shooting!

0 10

We are now into the winter season and the weather has definitely taken a turn for the damp and dreary :-(, but there is no need to be downhearted – there are still plenty of opportunities to shoot over the coming months!:

Why not shoot outdoors?

Don’t forget that our grounds at Manor Fruit Farm are open all year round for your use. Just book a session via the Sign Up Genius.

If you’d like to shoot with other members, there is a small group that meet regularly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 10.00 and 12.00, and you are most welcome to shoot with them. No particular round, just a bit of companionship!

If you have a longbow, why not shoot our postal competition rounds?

For those members who like to shoot longbow, we are meeting regularly on Sunday mornings twice a month to shoot rounds for ‘Postal’ competitions.

On one Sunday we will shoot a Portsmouth round (5 dozen on a 60com face at 20 yards) – these will be on: November 20th, December 4th, January 8th, February 12th and March 5th

And on the other Sunday we will shoot a Warwick Round (2 dozen each at 60 and 50 yards) – these will be on November 27th, December 17th, January 22nd February 26th and March 19th

All of these rounds will be shot at Normandy, assemby at 9.45 for a 10.00 start. – Please book in via Sign Up Genius as usual.

ALSO: We have set up a GAC Longbow group on the club’s communication platform; ‘Slack’ – If you’d like to join that group where we can discuss all things longbow, please just email Simon de Kretser

You could shoot a Frostbite round

If you enjoy shooting outside, why not practice a ‘Frostbite‘ round? – It consists of 3 dozen arrows, shot in ends of 6 at an 80cm target face, with metric scoring (10 zone).

We will shoot the round together on one Sunday morning per month; November 20th, December 11th, January 22nd, February 19th and March 19th – All at the GAC grounds, assembling at 9.45 for a 10.00 start

Each month we submit ‘Teams’ of scores into a Frostbite league, and we need Recurve, Longbow, Barebow and Compound scores, and ALL members can enter regardless of age, gender or skill.

You could shoot indoors at Ash Manor School…

Don’t forget that there are indoor shooting sessions at Ash Manor school; Tuesday evenings between 8.00pm and 10.00pm, and 2 sessions on Sundays; 1.30pm – 3.30pm and 3.30pm – 6.00pm

There is no specified round on a Tuesday evening, and on Sundays, the first session is for practice and coaching (particularly for novice archers), whilst the second session is for shooting a scored round.

You can go straight to Sign Up Genius for indoor sessions by clicking here

…and shoot a ‘Postal’ Portsmouth

On the Sunday second sessions that have a Portsmouth round specified will be for a scored round of 5 dozen arrows shot in ends of 3 at a 60cm face.

As with the ‘Frostbite rounds, these scores are submitted to a monthly league and EVERY score helps!

Get some coaching, help or advice on your shooting

If you would like help, then on Saturday afternoons at Normandy between 1 and 4 there will club coaches available. Please book in via the Sign Up Genius

However NOTE it is important that when you book into the session, you add a note to say that you would like coaching so that we can ensure enough coaches are available.

It may be winter, but there’s a lot going on!

For a complete guide to all of the club’s activities over the coming winter, please see the complete shooting diary.
